I'm afraid all his words ultimately were worthless, since the relationship was always on/off over six years, and he left you once for someone else.
This is a case of settling. You're settling for someone who simply can't commit, and is kind of using you just because you're there. You asked why someone can go from loving you to hating you - well the answer is that in your circumstances, they can't. What happened was that he never loved you enough in the first place.
Basically, the time has come for you to move on from this guy, and never look back.

 because they are selfish pigs. Please don't get with him again. He is emotionally abusive and only seeks to please himself. He will do this to you as long as you allow it. Tell him you wish him luck and never speak to him again
