Take him to the vet, it can be a urinary tract infection. Also... make sure you get the spot he peed on cleaned up so he won't re-offend.
Also make sure you clean the litter box daily.

Make sure the cat litter tray is very clean.
Then make the couch unavailable to him. That might mean turning it upsidedown for a while. Just so he can't pee where he's used to. He'll have to look for another spot and hopefully use the tray.
It'll mean you have nowhere to sit for a week...

Here's the thing; male cats who have become sexually active before they got "fixed" will still spray things. It's their way of marking their territory. If you get a male cat fixed later in life (like after their 6 months old) you may never change this behavior. It's primal. It's instinctive. It's not just a bad kitty who can be trained. Talk to your Vet and see if he has some suggestion and just keep in mind it's always best to get male cats fixed before they're 6 months old, while they're still "innocent" of sexual behaviors. He probably smells things on your couch that makes him feel threatened. It could even be the scent of another man (doesn't have to be another cat smell) and you are his "territory" (so to speak) so he's marking the spot to keep other males away. You may have to buy a very strong scent spray and live with the problem if you want to keep the cat indoors.

This question made me LOL. This is a relationship help and advice website! But oh well here goes...I live with my parents and they have 6 cats, the cats have a litter box,if u havent already got one of these then maybe thats something you should consider. Or you could just not let him go in the room where the couch is-close the door. OR orange peel! cats hate the smell of orange peel put some of that on your couch. Experiment a lil.
Good luck :).
Karen.

hi does he have a cat litter tray if not get him one and show him where it is if he does have one and is not using it then everytime he goes to pee on your sofa pick him up and put him in his tray if that doesnt help then you need to buy a citrus smelling spray (that will not stain your furniture) and spray where he is peeing as cats dont like the smell and it should stop him hope this helps good luck:)
