But I get out of bed feeling confused and a little frustrated. What's up with that?.....

LAUGH OUT LOUD! You are 26+ years old and don't know that it is perfectly normal for a health male to have an erection in the morning? Geez!

A

SO YOU MET the dawn in full salute. Maybe you attributed it to your partner's snuggling up extra close, or even to a full bladder. Could be, but "healthy males of all ages have three to five erections every night for reasons that have nothing to do with sexual arousal or the need to urinate," says J. Catesby Ware, Ph.D., chief of the division of sleep medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and director of the Sleep Disorder Center at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
NOCTURNAL ERECTIONS are actually a form of exercise. When the penis is flaccid, Ware explains, it receives little blood flow, which hinders the oxygenation and removal of waste products from penile cells.
WHILE YOU'RE awake and moving, the penis receives a healthy flow of blood. But during sleep, the body responds to the hematic slowdown with a genital workout roughly every 90 minutes. This usually occurs during rapid-eye-movement sleep--the time in which you also happen to be dreaming. REM periods grow longer as the night progresses, increasing the likelihood of a stiff wakeup call.
IF YOU REGULARLY rise sporting a pup tent, chances are that any occasional erectile difficulty is not physiological. If your plumbing works in the a.m., your p.m. shortfalls are probably psychological.
Hope that helps you!

And no on the whole it has nothing to do with mood.
Think of it as your nipples, just because they are erect doesn't mean you are ready to go either does it?

Not sure I agree with the comments about older men and only in the morning however a morning hard on is perfectly normal. Your boyfriends reaction is because the reason he was hard was purely a physiological thing and nothing to do with sexual thoughts. He wasn't turned on, just hard. If this happened at any other time of the say when he was awake and hard but claimed not to be turned on then that would be different but just after being asleep I can understand.
Mind you I think he is an idiot to turn down an opportunity with you even if he has just woken up. Sometimes a bit of morning spontaneity is an excellent way to start the day and all the better for being unexpected.
Tell him how it made you feel and ask if he sometimes wakes up hard and sexy and if so how are you to tell the difference.
Good luck

reader, anonymous, writes (13 February 2008): If men do not get an erection for an extended period of time, like weeks or months, then the spongy tissue (corpus cavernosum) can stop functioning properly. I forget the exact details, as it has been a while since I read about it. This is the tissue that the blood flows into to cause an erection. Night time erections are the bodies defense against this. Men have erections when they dream. The belief is that the subject of the dream is not important. Any dream will do. This is born out by the fact that this happens to babies also. I doubt that they are dreaming about getting laid. :)
I think that younger men prefer sex at night, whereas us older guys prefer it in the morning. This is because a man's testosterone level is highest in the morning, so we older guys need all the help that we can get. Younger guys can get it up just about any time of the day. Us older guys don't want to waste a good morning stiffy. I know that is the way that I have been in my younger and older years.

Actually, it is normal for most men to have two or three erections during the night while sleeping, perhaps due to dreams, or perhaps just the body checking over the systems. I'm not sure anyone absolutely knows why.
But a morning hard-on can be a "piss hard," as "eyeswideopen" suggests here, or possibly just coming out of a dream. In my case, if there is a woman present and there is time, I have often put it to good use after the morning's bladder relief if she is ready again. But I suppose some guys are less apt to be aroused in the a.m.

If you give him time and let go to normal it doesn't take long to get him back up. Their just afraid of losing it, their morning stiffy, while in the middle of sex.

Men get an erection in the morning without wanting sex, because, well, they have to 'wee wee.' You know, go to the bathroom. LoL. I have had boyfriends like that, I asked why, and that is the explanation that was given to me.

an erection in the morning is completly normal, and happens to pretty much most men. Though theres nothing wrong, its a little weird he doesnt want sex, but he may just be a little tired. But its no offence to your sex life

A
reader, anonymous, writes (13 February 2008): How is your sex life generally? As for this, don't feel offended, it could be that he doesn't want to in the morning for objective reasons - as for example considering it too tiresome to be able to work for the rest of the day, as I assure you it is true in case of some men. Fact that you cuddle should give you comfort - he is otherwise affectionate. You can ask him why he prefers... other times of the day, and not especially the mornings. All the best.

This is normal for guys. What is not normal is that he is not in the mood. He may want to have his testosterone checked with his Dr. But men waking up erect is normal. even baby boys do this.
