I'm just over nine months pregant. 2 days ago i had a small amount of clear fluid run down my leg, it's the 3rd time it's happened. I was wondering if theres anyway to speed up labour? People have suggested driving fast over a hill, and one lady said she drank 2 spoons of casteroil and at the end of the day she had her baby and she did that with her 2nd baby and they were fine.

I guess i'll be told to just wait but i was wondering if casteroil is dangerous?

the only thing i've tried is making love...alot lol please help and sorry if i sound daft.

Hello sweetie, congratulations! Don't try to speed it up if your are concerned go and see you gaenocologist and ask about enducing your labour. This can be done naturally or with a pill. Natural ways include walking, gentle swimming, massage and using an inflatable exercise ball. Good Luck just wait soon you'll have a beautiful bouncing baby.

eyeswideopen agony auntSome of these ideas may or may not work for you, but why risk the side effects? Nobody has ever stayed pregnant forever it just feels that way in the ninth month. Patience is a virtue. Let us know when you have that bouncing baby Ok?

I went to have an aromatherapy massage and she added a very small amount of Clarey Sage to the oil. It did the trick!

Aunt Lou Lou agony auntAlthough i havent had children myself, my cousin has 4. she always takes walks, and having a hot curry is meant to be good as well. i have heard that from a few friends and family members, and sounds far safer than some of the responses i have read. dont worry. your baby cannot stay in there forever. the more you stress out about it isnt going to help you or the baby. i hope it all goes well for you. good luck x

angelblueeyes agony auntHi,

Just had to come back after reading up on the oil thing,A lot of people have said that it gave them really bad stomach cramps and they had terrible diarrhea, i also read a comment by a nurse and she stated that it can cause very strong contractions. The strong contractions may cause stress on the baby (normal contractions usually start off slowly and less powerful). If the baby becomes too stressed, he may pass meconium(his first stool) inside the amniotic sac. He can then inhale this meconium and this can cause an infection in your baby.

However, when one tries to induce labour then this puts the baby at increased risk.

TELLULAH agony auntHi,

My best friend is also pregnant and in the last couple of weeks of it. Its been really horrble for her, and she has had a really bad pregnancy. So she cant wait for the labour pains to begin.

My heart goes out to you, waiting 9 months sucks. But just imagine what a wonderfull thing it is at the end.

Love to the both of you, and be carefull what you try. Sounds like its pretty close anyway. XXX

flower girl agony auntI got myself booked in with the midwife and she agreed to give me a sweep (basically they give you an internal and have a prod around) the weirdest thing was when they went to do it they said i was already in labour and i did not even know and that was with my second.

Good luck and take care.xx.

You will be told to wait but I know exactly how you feel. 9 months is long enough to wait without being late. I was 10 days late with my last one. Different things work for different people, I did everything people could throw at me and nothing worked, it all happened naturally in the end. Some of the things I tried were Rasberry leaf tea capsules - Birthing ball, that was great actually, made the actual birth much more comfortable erm there was an oil that I put in my bath, cant think for the life of me what it was called though and caster oil, spicey foods, long walks, bouncy castle or trampoline - be careful though. Take a look on the net there is loads. Good luck with your birth. Send us a post of what you have etc x

A female reader, Midge United Kingdom +, writes (17 October 2007):

Midge agony auntMy oldest sister drank a bottle of casteroil because she was two weeks late. They were going to start her labour for her if she didnt go into labour soon. She took the casteroil on the Saturday night and by Sunday morning (when they were going to start her), she had her baby.

My mum did the same for my two sisters, so it definately does work.

As for side effects, the only one being, an upset tummy for a while.

If your baby is ready, then there is no problems with doing this.

A female reader, deejuliet United States +, writes (17 October 2007):

deejuliet agony auntThere are several things to TRY, but none of them are garaunteed to work. I, too, tried the castor oil, but it did not work for me. Castor oil is not dangerous at all so feel free to try it, but I do have to warn you, it tastes NASTY!!!!! I suggest gathering a bunch of spit in your mouth and kind of trying to encapsulate the oil and then quickly swallow it and follow with a glass of water. I do not suggest driving fast over a bump as it is too easy to end up losing control, crashing and getting injured or worse. The baby will come eventually! It is not worth risking your or your babies health to get it to come faster! Anyway, some other things to try. Excercise ~ go for a long walk or if you are up to it some more vigerous excercise. Orgasm~ have some more sex! Spicey foods. You can ask your doctor to strip your membranes. This separates the lower part of the membranes from the uterous and almost certainly will bring on labor ,although this didnt work for me either! My baby was determined not to come before he wanted to! Sometime there is just nothing you can do. The baby will come, that I can garauntee! Good luck. Get some rest now while you can. Soon you will have the little bundle of joy in your arms and you can forget sleeping ever again! ;-)

angelblueeyes agony auntHi,

Just got to ask if you have been checked out by midwife for leaking fluid? if not go and see her thats how my labour started.

My friend used the oil thing with all 3 of her children and no harm come to her or her kids but also i have heard that it could harm you/baby, semen on the other hand is supposed to work the best but i don't think really anything will work. At the end of the day the baby will come out when they are good and ready.

Hope that helped you a bit and good luck with the birth it's wonderful!!
