I wake up and remember quite a bit of what I have dreamt that night, and I thought that was quite normal, but many family members tell me that they never dream (or simply don't remember them). I also dream in colour and black and white and have flying dreams (and Yes, I know that those are about sexual euphoria...). I also dream about packing and moving and living in new places, but probably that's because I travel a lot and have lived in a lot of places. Frankly, it's exhausting when you pack all night before waking up. I also dream about ascending and descending stairs that lead nowhere and doors that are too small to fit through, like Alice-in-Wonderland, I assume these are about fear of the unknown future...

Anyways, Just curious about the rest of you...

birdynumnums agony auntDon't worry - your OB/GYN would have already have been laughing and asking "How big was your last baby" when measuring the fundal height if your baby was too big to deliver...

Don't sweat it. satin! Most of us are well prepared for labour, after years of periods, and labour is just that - strong and purposeful cramps. You'll be fine. Mine were 8.2 and 10.4 and I didn't have any medical drugs or interventions - How stupid was that - in retrospect?

You have a strength about you, little one, you'll be just fine and be a kick ass mommy too!

birdynumnums agony auntOhhhh, Man. My second baby was 10.4 lbs., talk about size of a pea... nice pun! (that was like having a Volkswagon sitting on your bladder.)

birdynumnums agony auntWorrying about aging now, for birdynumnums, would be like closing the barn door after the cows got out...

I distinctly remember having them when I was FIRST worrying about aging, but not about looks, I think that they are more about mortality in general, as I always had them in my teens and 20's and when I had babies in the house, up till I was in my mid 30's. I think that that dream, about losing teeth, is about becoming frail and facing our own mortality, and we always get a lot more serious about our futures once we have children! I'm at the age where I should be losing teeth, and I no longer dream about it!

Tisha-1 agony auntLOL, Birdy, I know we have a lot in common! Maybe we just forgot to brush our teeth before going to bed, and it's our subconscious' way of nagging us? It can't have anything to do with the fact that I'm uncomfortably close to 50!

Thanks for the insights, satin, sorry your bladder's the size of a pea right now. Ha! The size of a pea! I crack me up.

birdynumnums agony auntHaha Tish, Good one!

I guess my night-time hot flashes are happening during my REM cycles, satin! (...which explains why I'm dreaming more!)

I was curious, but rogerramjet seems a lot like my husband, who very rarely remembers his dreams.

I remember one a night, and I've had that one about the teeth too, Tish!

Thanks Starlights and fifteen!

I've also found that I have more influence and control over myself inside of my dreams and can often avoid the nightmares of my youth, and I almost never have nightmares now, much like roger.

It's reassuring to hear that there are many different ways to be and yet it's still normal...

Starlights agony auntmost people dont remember their dreams on waking up and some do.

but everyone dreams a dream regardless whether they remember it or not.

i wouldnt worry about what your dreams mean, they seem random and repeated over and over (things u have experienced stored in your subconsciousness)

i usually dream about being back at school, i dream this 4 times a month, which is annoying! ha!

A male reader, Rogerramjet Canada +, writes (20 July 2009):

When i was younger i used to remember a good majority of my dreams..

Especially nightmares..Probably relates to what satindesire said about only remembering dreams when we wake up during an REM sleep pattern, and the nightmares scaring me awake at those points.

In my late teens i did quite a bit of work to try to force myself to stay asleep during nightmares, telling myself that nothing could hurt me and everything would turn out alright. I found that this was indeed the case. My nightmares would ALWAYS turn out alright if i forced myself to stay asleep.

I'm not sure if it's related or no, but around that time was when i think i fairly effectively stopped dreaming (or remembering them anyways.)

A couple times a year i will have a dream about a particular ex-girlfriend of mine that apparently still affects me (cause i always seem to remember those), but otherwise... Yep almost never remember them anymore.

Tisha-1 agony auntBirdy, have you been renting DVDs of my dreams? I have exactly the same ones. The flying, the not being able to fit through doors, sometimes color, sometimes B/W. Mostly color, though. And moving through houses that are not mine. Escalators. Teeth falling out and being naked in public and showing up and having an exam I haven't studied for. Help! I must need help!
