 Perfectly normal, as long as she knows to do it in private then it isnt even something you need to discuss with anyone. One of my earliest memories is being caught by my mum she taught me it was ok in the privacy of my own room but not in public and I have grown up with a normal healthy sex life x

If its excessive I would worry. Like if she does it all of the time.
I know a child that was molested and she did it all of the time. Everywhere and anywhere.
But if she isn't doing it a whole lot then its probably just normal.
This child your babysitting is probably just exploring herself. Its ok.
When children do it they don't really become obsessed with it unless there is a bigger issue. So you may notice this child is acting normal. Playing...watching tv. Talking to friends and so on. With the occational masternation. Then you know its ok.
If she is constantly doing it or with drawing from activities and people then worry.

The answers will vary, particularly because this is an eight year old girl. I'm not sure if this is something we should consider as "correct" or "wrong". She's doing it, because she enjoys it, and many other small boys and girls do it as well. Some older people do the same thing she's doing, and then more, and no one would question their right to do it. So, the one question here is whether you should intervene. I think not. She's doing it in private, you're taking good care of her, and in any case, let her parents handle it. I'm sure they have noticed that she wants privacy all the time. I'm sure they know why.
