writes: Is Chlamydia only transmitted by having sex? and which test is more reliable the Chlamydia swab testing done by the doctor or the Chlamydia self testing kits (wee pot).I ask because I went to the doctors nearly two weeks ago. She thought I might have thrush so she put me on thrush medicine and told me to come back in a weeks time. She also gave me a self testing kit for Chlamydia which I sent off the same day.A weeks time comes and the burring and itching went but the discharge was still abnormal. So the doctor did swab tests (including one for Chlamydia). On Monday I got the results back from the doctor, she said the results were negative for any STDs but a bacteria infection was found (not sure what it is called but its a natural bacteria down there but just over producing). So I’m now taking antibiotics which within 2 days have already started to clear the discharge issue.Today I get a phone call with results from the Chlamydia self testing kit.. apparently I have Chlamydia. So I am now having to take another load of antibiotics to clear Chlamydia which I don’t believe I have as I have not sex with anyone but I have done other stuff.. (return back to initial questions).Me x x

It doesn't happen often but occasionally peoples results get mixed up. I would go back to the doctors/GUM clinic (who I would consider to do the more accurate test) or phone them up to say that you have had conflicting results. They might repeat the test to confirm things or at the very least contact the company that do the tests. If you've accidentally been given the wrong results, somebody else out there might have your results and think they DON'T have chlamydia.
But it is possible for STD's to be transmitted through fingers, mouths, sex toys and genital to genital contact.

Candida (overproducing natural bacteria) is a form of thrush and that would cause the burning and itching
Chlamidya has no symptoms, hence its notoriety and the drive for screening kits.
candida can sometimes cause a positive STI test, but its not common, so i would go to another doctor if possible to get a second opinion.
hope this helps

All STIs can be transmitted by "fooling around" you don't need full intercourse.
As for the tests, this is slightly worrying, and I would go back to your doctor and explain about the conflicting results, asap.
