I'm wondering whether i should go to a concert alone this saturday ?. some of my friends will be sat in the same block as me, and a fan i know online, but havent met personally yet, will be sat next to me, so i wont exactly be alone during the concert, just when i'm travelling there. i'm just worried about getting lost when i go into the arena. the train station is right near the arena, but it's a big area so i could lose my way. another problem is , usually, my friends and i wait for the band after their concerts, but i will have to get the last train hom at the latest, as i couldnt get a hotel room, and obviously, i'll have to make sure that i dont miss the train, especially as i will be on my own. i also hope that i will be able to find the right platform. no one else i know will be getting the train home. i havent travelled to places alone that much. i suppose i could wait for the band for a little while but keep my eye on the time. the city that the concert will be on at is 40 minutes away from where i live, by public transport.

k_c100 agony aunt40 mins is nothing on public transport, it is close by so dont worry. Worse comes to worse, get a taxi home which wont be masively expensive.

Just go on Google and print out a map from the train station to the arena, so there is no way you can get lost. Put it in your handbag and then you know where you are going at all times. And what will help you is during a large concert/event/gig, the trains to that venue are always full of other people going to the same place. So when you get off the train at the appropriate stop, hundreds of other people will be walking in the direction of the venue. So if you just follow them there is no chance you can get lost and not make it to the venue.

Trains are very easy to handle and there is no way you wont be able to find the platform - even London Waterloo which is enormous (UK's biggest station) only has 19 platforms, and they have LOADS of screens all around the stations displaying the time and platform number of EVERY train running within the next 2 hours. So when you get there, go in through the main entrance, look at the screen to find your train, memorise the platform number and then find the platform by following the signs. It really is not difficult - and even if somehow you cannot follow signs and cant find the platform, there are plenty of staff there to help you out.

Just be brave and get on with it - travelling alone is easy but you just need to get used to it. Millions of people travel alone every single day and none of them are wandering around lost, so just give it a go and you will find it much easier than you think.

I hope this helps and good luck!

CindyCares agony aunt Yes,go.

There is always a first time. Sooner or later you will have to catch a flight or a train or visit a new city by yourself, it's next to impossible you go through life without this happening to you. Make this your test run and start learning to find your way in the wide world :)

Just allow yourself more time than if you were familiar with your destinations, so you don't have to do last minute mad rushes. And ask, ask, ask, ask for directions, twenty times if you have too. Don't be afraid you'll look dumb or clumsy- asking is how you learn things. And people are much more willing to help than we usually give them credit for.

Of course , keep an eye on your watch after the concert,if sleeping out is not an option, you don't wanna miss that last train !

Have fun !

This is just something you probably have to chance. Best thing to go is go on google maps or something and print off all the area around the arena, and make sure you know how to get from the station to the arena. As for the train station, stand in well lit areas, check train timetables and station layouts at nationalrail.co.uk (search the stations for a station map)

If you're still worried, then maybe don't go. But if you do your homework a bit, have maps and times ready, you'll be fine.
