My experience with this is having things move too fast. Girls can freight so much on intimacy -- that it means commitment, undying love, etc. -- and if he's thinking that's where you are, when he knows he's not, then his brain doesn't let it happen. Rather than a message that you're not beautiful, it's more likely a message to take things slower. The good news is that it means he has a conscience.

 No need to worry. Chances are, it was the alcohol that made it hard for him to get turned on. Consumption of alcohol can affect ones sexual performance to a large degree. So don't let it bother you. I have had this problem with a man on the first night too, (though the next time was much better!!!! ;-) (and he did indeed fancy me!) lol
First times with people are sometimes awkward, give it time, (and if he was wanting/willing to get naked with you, I doubt your nakeness was a turn off!!!!!) :-)
