A male Canada age 51-59, anonymous writes:

I'm a 41 year old male. I have a Dr. appointment coming up in a few weeks for a full physical (haven't had one of those in quite awhile). I've been doing a full pubic hair shave for the last couple of months. I'm feeling a bit embarrassed that my doctor will see me bald down there. Should I grow it back for my appointment? Should I feel self conscious at all? What do you think? Any doctors or nurses reading this that can reassure me? Thanks!

My girlfriend's father in law is a doctor. One night we were sitting around discussing work....my girlfriend works in a spa. Her father in law stated that is hasn't seen so many featherless birds (females) and a clean deck for viewing (males).

I'm sure your doctor has seen with and without. But if you feel more comfortable, grow some in.

Good Luck!

When people have surgery they get shaved, for hygiene reasons. So often doctors are actually more used to seeing shaved areas than hairy ones. The only time the doctor would comment is if it looked sore and red.

He's your doctor. He's seen down there; and takes no particular pleasure in it. It's strictly professional.

He sees dozens of shaven male patients; and being a doctor, there is very little he hasn't seen before. He sees bare "asses" all day long. A bare pubic area is no big surprise. Most guys shave down there these days anyway. I do myself.

Relax!

Many men shave themselves these days like women.Your doctor will have seen it all thousands of times before.

Ciar agony auntI know that line about the glitter and the gyn.

A lot of men go Brazilian these days so unless your doctor graduated yesterday, he or she has seen plenty of shaved men.

Years ago at a spa the woman giving me a facial was telling me about how many men come in for waxing. It's reasonable to assume those men who visit spas also visit doctors.

So_Very_Confused agony auntNaw.. just get some glitter for the area and go fancy!

Sorry it's a reference to a line about going to the gyn..

Women have dealt with this exact issue for years... Trust me it's just like another day at the office for them...

The doctor has seen it all from shaved and tattooed to full on gorilla bush due to hormonal issues. Shaving your pubic hair will not be part of your medical record, NO comment will be made about it. It's just normal to the doctor.

Don't think twice it's alright...

Honeypie agony auntSorry, I don't mean to make fun of your dilemma, but YOU have nothing to worry about.

I have NO DOUBT your doctor have seen a shaved scrotum/private area MANY MANY times before.

Now if you have any odd tattoos in the area it might be wise to let the brush grow, but what is wrong with being clean shaven? It means you take care of your grooming and hygiene.

Would you buy a wig if you had shaven your head before seeing your doctor? Doubt it. So just go in with your head held high. (no puns intended).

It's QUITE normal. Some men shave, some don't. Some women do, some don't - it's NOT really one of those OMG moments.
