I'd say we're both very cautious and safe about these things, but there's still a chance. so just how safe am I with a condom alone? Should I look into other forms of birth control?

Do look into other forms of birth control. And stand up for the responsibility if everything fails.

No birth control is 100% effective but if your worried go talk it through with a doctor of someone who can advise you and put your mind at rest.

If you worry, I think it will be best if you find a birth control that YOU can control. Go to Planned Parenthood (awesome place to go) and talk to them about different forms of birth control. More than often, they will hook you up with government aid, making the cost of birth control significantly cheaper for you or sometimes FREE!
Go on the pill or the Nuva Ring, or get the shot.. get something else so that you have an automatic backup if a mistake does happen. It's always better to be safe than sorry, and I'm really glad that you're thinking about being safe.
What's better than one form of birth control? TWO! Condoms + a birth control will give you security and peace of mind.
Good luck, sweetness!

Condoms can be very effective if used properly. But keep in mind, nothing but not having sex is 100% effective. If a condom has a leak, you could get pregnant, if it bursts, falls off and such. Just be careful and you should be fine. Don't handle the condom with your fingernails too much and definately don't take it off afterwards and touch yourself near your vaginal opening with unwashed hands. But yeah, you may want to consider an extra method. But chances are, you problaly are fine.
