There is a place where i live that you can live in ( it's called a foyer ) and the staff who work there also help you to get jobs, by helping you with applications, e.t.c. I've heard that you can also live and work in some hostels, and of course, you can live in somewhere and study a course, but that would be more expensive. Does anyone have any ideas, and if you know of any websites about this kind of thing, could you please post the links ?. I'd love to live and work in either London or America , but i know it can be difficult, and expensive, to find jobs and accommodation there, so i'm trying to figure out the easiest way to make this happen. And i was also wondering if i could get a sponsered visa for America ( i dont know much about visas ). Thanks. Reply to this Question Share |

It would also be expensive for me to travel for the interview then travel back again if i get the job, so obviously, it would be easier for me to do an interview if i was already there. I've also heard of backpacker hostels, and i've heard that you can live there long term, but i'm not sure what those places are like as i have never been to them...I have applied for some live in hotel and bed and breakfast jobs too, but i didnt hear back from those employers.
Thanks for your advice, everyone. I hope something can be arranged.

I lived in London for 8 years from the age of 28. I didn't move there until I had secured employment though. I went on to do some studying there but if I hadn't got a scholarship then I wouldn't have survived. Finding a job in London is not a problem. Finding a good job in London is more of a challenge! In the age of the computer there is no reason why you couldn't apply for jobs from where-ever you live right now. If you get job interviews then you could always travel to London for that. London is full of flea-pit bedsits (my first flat I shared with a rat who came in from the house next door and I swear he was addicted to steroids by the size of him!). There are hostels in London but they tend to be for the vulnerable homeless population, and it can be hard to secure a place. Demand for these services is enormous. With all the recent UK policy changes to housing benefit, you would be wise to secure a job before leaving and going to a big city alone. London is a tough nut to crack as the cost of transport to work alone can sink half your salary. It can be very lonely too if you don't know anyone.

And I'll add to celtic tiger, you have to have specific skills or qualifications, most likely a degree in order to get a work visa. You also have to think there's tons of qualified Americans still competing for scare jobs in our economy.

I agree - why do you specifically want to live in London or the USA - both very expensive places.
What qualifications do you have? This will help us guage what type of employment you are seeking.
America is quite strict with its immigration policy - if you are not going to be of any use to them, they make it difficult.

This is the American visa website - it might help you to work out if you are eligible.

As for London - again, it depends on your job prospects and your finances.
