 If you ask her out and she doesn't like the idea, most likely you will lose the friendship. Maybe not right away, but, in the end, that will happen. Friends and lovers are different categories of people. Before you say a word, think two, three times whether you're willing to lose her friendship.

 That guys reply is rather immature. What you need to do is make sure that she is allowed to have a boyfriend. Do you hangout with this girl alot. If you want to be friends with her even if she says no, tell her that you do not want to feel weird and that you still want to be best friends. She will appreciate you being totally honest with her.
