I trusted my long-term boyfriend enough to stop using condoms with him, but now I am itchy! Could it just be thrush or something more?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I need help. I hope I am just worrying for nothing. I have been with my boyfriend for 2 and a half years and been completely faithful. Before him I have only had sex with 3 other guys all who were my boyfriends. I was safe with all of them (using condoms and I'm on the pill). In the last couple of weeks I have become very itchy below and it hurts when me and my boyfriend have sex (only when he enters after that I'm fine) it sometimes hurts if he fingers me like makes it itchy. During the last 3 months I trusted my boyfriend enough (we been together a long time) to stop using condoms since I am on the pill and that. Now I am itchy? I trust him but why would this happen - I know it could be thrush but I am right to consider the possibility of something more? I just got back from holiday so I am hoping to see my doctor soon, I just need some advice thanks as I'm embarrassed to see the doctor about this. Thanks xx

You have nothing to be embaresd about. You are so right going to your doctors because if it is thrush, then you need something to clean it up. It does sound like thrush to me as i have had it a few times myself.

The doctor might advice you to go to your local GUM clinck to test for std's.

good luck xxx

AskSam agony auntIf it only external, you most probably have thrush, so just watch the bread intake, anything with yeast, natural yoghurt works as a relief, less soap down there, and a cream called canesten is highly recommended too. Altough i really wold recommend going to your doctor, these issues are really quite common, and in the case it was something a little more serious wouldnt it be safer to get it checked out than leaving it and possibly doing damage to yourself? Or the possiblity of giving it to someone else later in life? just think carefully if you are that worried, the doctor is probably best.

Good irish luck and lots of love

sugar_sugar agony auntThe only really helpful advice you get will be from your doctor. Make an appointment straight away.

You seem to trust your boyfriend, and that's great. Personally I would be reluctant in testing that trust through my own sexual health. Boys particularly of that age can be swayed easily. That is not to say yours is, but it is something to consider.
