But my heart will suddenly and without cause, start beating really, really fast. It's uncomfortable. it doesn't hurt, and it doesn't a really big difference in my breathing but I've timed it at 200 bpm before. It lasts from five mintues to a few hours. I went to the doctor and he said that this happens to everyone, it's just that some poepl can't feel it, so I should feel lucky because I'll be the first person to know if something is wrong with my heart. This doesn't sound right to me, so I'm here to figure out if it really does happen to everyone. I'm not looking for medical advice, just to see if what he said is true. Does it happen to all of you? Reply to this Question Share |

My heart would beat fast and I'd be really, really aware of it. I'd have panic attacks and feel literally like I was dying. I was positive that my life was about to end. If any of that sounds familiar than maybe you have anxiety. If not...then it's probably something else. Maybe a valve problem?

I have had 2 heart ablations myself to cure my very similar problem. The procedure is not too bad; they just went in through my veins with cathetars and burned electrical pathways responsible for my irregular heart rates. No scars were left and you get to leave the hospital a few hours later
Go to a cardiologist. It is not normal.
My heart episodes would occur with exercise and my heart rate would stay high for hours. Now, I can live a normal life because I got it fixed

Hey - No my mum isnt old, mid 40's. Apparently its common in adult women, but i have to admit besides my mother i dont know anyone else who has ever had it. I first got one when i was 15.. i had lost a massive amount of weight the wrong way and im not sure if this had an affect but its when i started getting them. Funny thing is a RARELY get heart palpitations whilst exercising - they always happen when im just sitting around of if i get up too fast.

Hard Decision, I'm guessing you and I are in similar boats. You're sescribing what I feel. I got an echo once because I decided to go to a cardiologist and they said everything is fine. But yeah.. I think it's called STVs? Where is just sucks forever? Is your mom old? Sorry if that's weird but, it would mean it's not life shortening. It scares me that as I get older my heart won't be able to handle that as well. SIGH.

Normal heart beat at rest is 70bpm.If you exercise, your heart beat may go higher.
This problem usually arises from abnormal electrical connections in the heart that short-circuit the normal path of electrical conduction and heart rate.
Perhaps you can research more online by Googling this topic or seek a second opinion from another medical or heart specialist.

I've been told I have a heart mermer (Can't figure out how to spell it) which is just an irregular heart beat. I can't believe that your doctor would not look into it more. It doesn't happen to everyone unless you are in an adrenilin rush, connected to some other event.

Hi there - I get Heart Palpitations alot myself. Sometimes I can go weeks without having one, and other times i can have multiple a day! i once timed by bpm for 20 seconds and got 70, so that made it 210 bpm! It was pretty crazy, but i sometimes black out from it and get a hot rush and tingly sensation throughout my body. Ive been on heart monitors, had scans everything and the doctor just tells me its something i have to live with. My mum has the same thing, she had a operation on one of the valves in her heart - but it never fixed it and she still gets it. You can get medication for this but doesnt always work. Whenever i get it i just sit still or lay down and breathe in deeply..it usually passes, but sometimes it doesnt and sticks around for a long time and the force is that strong it shakes my whole body.. its more of an annoyance now..

No, it doesn't happen to me unless I've been doing something which is meant to increase cardio rate, and it's the same with most people I believe. Sounds like excessive anxiety, and you should probably get a second opinion. Good luck :)
