writes: So in the past year or so i have been constintaly mistaken as a being between the ages of 12 and 14. I am now 18 and about to start college. I find this so frustrating because i am convinced that this is keeping guys from talking to me. I sometimes see them stair and stuff but they never talk or at least dont talk much when ever i try to flirt or something. My parents and other older adults have said that i will enjoy this when im older but...others who got this kind of thing as a teen still hate it to this day. I need a way to look older so people dont think that they are robbing the cradle. I mean i still get offers to eat from the kids menue at restrants (and the age limit is usually 12). Im really short(4'10'') so it might be hard to look older but i dunno. Someone please help me.

Well I still have this issue and I am 23 about to be 24 years old. I am the head of the Children's Department at my library and people hesistate to come up to me for questions. They ask my staff rather than me because they think I'm 17 and its a summer job. You don't know how many times someone asked me if I was doing my job as an after school thing. I hacked off all my hair into a short bob. I had to do this before when I was working for a lobbyist at 20 years old. No one beleived I was there on business and when I cut my hair I had less hastle. I am having less hastle now but people still think I'm young.Try getting a nice bob. Get a mom haircut. It works! And older guys will be into that too so don't be worried it will make you look ugly. Good luck in college!

Glad you found a guy who loves your height!
I don't know if someone has told you this, but a lot of my friends told me that shortness was something cute that they found in a girl.

shorter hair helps, it always makes a woman appear maturer than she actually is, trust me its proven! dress mature too, wear heels to help with your height and wear nice dresses and pencil skirts. The older you dress, the older you look. Just be confident and don't worry about what other people think about you :)

I have to say having really long hair will make you appear younger but dont go from really really long to a bob. you will hate it. Have it cut to about just around where your bra is first. See how you like that and then go gradually shorter, trust me I have been there!!!!!!

I don't think the artsy style will not make you look like a child unless you wear tye-dye shirts, because this will make you look tacky and people will probably not take you seriously. You could try to find more arquitectural (as in, asymetrical, alternative, edgy) clothes that would probably suit you better.
You could go to eBay if you want to search for clothes that will be similar to your style. I have gotten so many original, yet great looking clothes in there for a fraction of a price! You just have to look and be careful for scammers.
There are other auction sites you could look, but eBay is where most people sell and where you could find more options.

Haruka62442 is verified as being by the original poster of the questionfunny, i just got my hair trimmed. its down to my bum i also have bangs and these japanese style side banng thinges that almost reach my chin. I have been wanting a short hair style but i was planning no selling my hair after it got longer. but i think im gonna go to the mall this weekend and get it all chopped of in a bob-ish thing.
I actually love the store Charlotte Russe, its only place that i can find pants that fit right and arnt too long on me. But i kinda have a more artsey taste in clothes and want to look unique and different but i guess this might be mistaken as looking like a sloppy teen. its not fair that my other friends can wear these kinds of clothes and i have to dress in a more mature way but i guess its better than looking 12.
but i have been practicing wearing heals and i actually dont fall anymore.
hopefuly a hair cut is all i need.

Take advantage of it and eat for half price. Seriously you may complain now but wait until you are older and everyone is shocked when you reveal your true age!!
I turned 40 last week and in the local pub my hubbie went for a wee and a young lad next to him in the toilets made a comment about the woman who had just turned 40. My hubbie said yeah thats my missus. The guy said you lucky ba**"ard she is NOOOO way 40, 28 if a day!!! So enjoy looking young as when you ARE older you will love it!!!!

I have the same problem! I'm almost 20, but I look like a 13 year old. I'm also very short (5'2") for my age, which makes people think I'm younger. But instead of getting worried about it, I just find it funny.
I don't know if you're the same person as before, but I answered this same question yesterday. I will basically repeat what I said.
What you could do is wear more adult make up. Also, try to look for make up that works for your type of skin and eyes. If you don't know what make up to wear, you could go to a cosmetologist and she will be glad to help you (They're at Sears, Macy's, JCPenny) or your mom or a friend who knows about make up.
Also, the right hair cut will make you look MUCH older. Try different styles that will suit you and that will make you look older. For me, for example, bangs put about 2-3 years into me, so I often wear them.
A big thing that can also affect how other people will persieve you is the way you dress. If you dress like a kid or a teenager, they will surely guess you're younger than what you are. Try using more "young-adult" clothes that go according to your taste. There are TONS of stores that sell clothes for young women, like for example Forever 21, Dustpink, Charlotte Russe, etc. I have myself tested this! For my 18 birthday, I dressed like a kid (for fun) and my parents invited me to this restaurant. The person got a good look at me and gave me the kids lunch price (she even said "is she 12?" which my parent's promptly said "yes"). About a week later, I went to lunch there in my working clothes (I work in an office) and I had to pay regular price.
And if guys don't pay attention to you, I don't think it's because of your young looks. I mean, if you have the body of a woman and not of a kid, they will think you just look young for your age. It must be something else in you (probably your beauty) that makes guys be intimidated.
Well, good luck and don't stress about this!

Cut your hair in a more mature style. My hair was long and I looked my age, I had it cut into a bob and I'm now mistaken for between 16-18. Wear your make up in a fashion known to people of the older generation such as people in their later twenties (24-27). Wear heels as much as you can and look up some things on beauty blogs. Good luck x
