A female age 36-40, anonymous writes:

ive got really bad self esteem issues but i dont know what to do about them. I hate myself so much that the only part of me that i can look at in a mirror is my face and even then it has to be in dark lighting and from the front view. i hate the look of my face from the side. my main issue is my weight but every diet ive tried has failed. i constantly feel like crying when i think about it and am so paranoid that im unattractive that i have to carry a small mirror literally everywhere to check there isnt something wrong with my face so now everyone thinks im vain when im not.

A female reader, Reebe United Kingdom +, writes (4 January 2007):

Reebe agony auntI think most people feel like this at some point and everyone is right, about loving yourself, everyone had great qualities about them, although they're all different and that's what makes the world go round!

Start by setting little challenges for yourself.

For example

Today I will walk for 30 minutes.

I want to lose 2lbs this week.

Today do 20 sit ups and run up and down the stairs 10 times.

I will not eat chocolate for 3 days and allow myself a small bar after those 3 days.

Remeber eating only a little will make you store fat as your body will think your starving it. little and often is the key - there are lots of recipe guides on the internet choose a few and mix them around and stick to it for 1 month and see how great you feel afterwards!

I think if your weight is troubling you the ONLY way to lose weight and be healthy is to exercise and eat healthy.

As you begin to lose weight you will start to feel better and better.

I recently lost 4 stones because I felt miserable with the way I looked and that is how i did it after being on every diet avaliable.

Good Luck and remember the only person who can change you is you!

A female reader, rammsteinfan United States +, writes (4 January 2007):

rammsteinfan agony auntI was in the same boat as you! I will tell you how I started to feel better about myself.

I decided to join a health club, which on my part was one of the best decisions that I made! By doing aerobics decreased the stress that I was under. Doing the weight machines made my body look good, and I really liked what I saw in the reflection!! I ended up being a member of the health club for 9 years....4 of those years I became a staff member teaching aerobics!!

That built my confidence up...and the guys who were members of the club paid me compliments on how I looked too!

Also try having a make-over and get some new clothes that will boost your self-esteem! Splurge on yourself and you will like the results!! Make this your New Year resolution!

Good Luck!!!!

The below people are right, you have to love the inner you, no1 will ever be happy on the outside,no1,not entireley.ive discovered that now, after surgery.just because you see airbrushed women does not mean you have to look perfect, every1 loves you for who you are.

A female reader, Miss trust +, writes (3 January 2007):

Miss trust agony auntThe main thing you need to do is work from the inside out. It seems your confidence is seriously in decline. As the other person said, you need to love yourself. How can anyone else love you if you dont love yourself?

There are a lot of other people out ther who feel the same as you. Maybe you could join a support group?

You could also do things to make yourself feel better about yourself like a spa treatment or a makeover, a new outift? Something that makes you feel sexy and confident! Because everyone in this world is beautiful, everyone deserves to be loved and i really hope that you can be happy in the future! you need to make changes now, if not you may be like this for the rest of your life and i know for a fact you dont want that!

I wish you all the luck in the world :)

A female reader, Emu +, writes (3 January 2007):

try to learn to love yourself. It my take a while to love yourself phisically, but love the good things you do. Helping an elderly neighbour with their groceries, being a good friend. These are examples of wholesome good things to do- Try to do at least one good deed a day.

If you can love and begin to notice the good things you do, soon your poor self image can disappear.

Begin a new sport, like karate and learn with others, make new friends and this coupled with the new friends you'll make will improve your self image.
