it also helps to concerntrate on your breathing. breathe in for 10 seconds n then breathe out for 10 seconds. and then just keep concerntrating on that. eventually you get bored and fall asleep. this was suggested to me by my science teacher. it works a little like counting sheep. lol.
another thing i do, soounds crazy but works for me! think of a movie that you really like, one that you know well and have seen too many times lol. replay it in your head from the very beginning. you've got to replay everything including the dialogue. i always fall asleep within the first 10 mins lol.
oh, you could also try doing more in the day...you're proberly tired but going for a walk normally helps.
i also suggest you google tips. things like hot drinks and changing your diet and position you sleep in are suggested.
hope this helps

change your diet.. it really does help you sleep! don't drink energy drinks at all if you do.. they really stuff up sleeping habits and are just generally not good for you.
tea always calms me at night, i usually have chamomile or herbal tea at night time.

You can Google for those tips online and listen to those musical You Tube video's which can make you fall asleep with those monotonous sounds.

Go back to your doctor and explain the pills are not working.
Insomnia can be cause by lots of reasons stress, pain, trauma, illness, emotions, PTSD, or recurring thoughts.
Do you feel anxious while awake during the day? It may be better to find the root cause of this first and face it head on, there is a lot of support networks and therapy which can help you in this. Your GP should be able to put you intouch or refer you.

You could try listening to very calming music, or writing all your problems down at the end of the day and then leaving the list on your desk. Those two ways worked for a few people.
