writes:I'm a 36 old guy who never had a girlfriend,has never been friend of a woman and of course never had sex.I understood long time ago that it's impossible for me to have a woman(unless I don't look for the ugliest) and that no woman will never like me,let alone fall in love with me.Sometimes I don't care but when I see on the street someone I really like dresses in the way I like I feel really bad.I would like to get rid of my feelings for women so my suffering will stop soon.I went to my family doctor and he told me there is nothing I can do.Does anyone know here of any academic doing research in this field?Please let me know

I think that it's very, very difficult to change your sexual tendencies. I know that research has been done on how to change the tendencies of paedophiles (for the good of society) and they have all failed.
There is something that I have thought about. Think of all the gay men who have managed to deceive women into thinking they're straight: gays who were once married to women (e.g. Elton John, Michael Barrymore) and all the gays from the old days who had to pretend that they were straight. Can the reverse happen and a straight man force himself to be gay? If you think that you might have more luck with men than with women, you can try.

reader, anonymous, writes (7 November 2010): It's not impossible at all. You sound like you havery very low self esteem. If you give us a bit more info about yourself it would help. It could be the way you're coming across, if you're very un-confidant people will find it hard to get to know you.
