He'll be arriving late on Saturday ( no shops will be open on Sunday in that neighbourhood and no bars or cafes where breakfast will be served are available in that neighbourhood. Should I at least leave a kettle and tea/coffee in the bedsit? I feel like helping him and I know he's working on a budget. We're just friends now.

In this case I would at least have a kettle, toaster, loaf of bread and some marg/butter and spread there for him to use. It's a nice gesture and helpful for a friend to do that.

If you have a spare kettle and toaster, yes, leave one there for his use, and some tea bags and maybe a loaf of bread as well. It would be a nice, welcoming, gesture.
