I am taking the contraceptive pill and had also been on antibiotics. I had unprotected sex but when this took place I hadnt taken any antibiotics for over 24 hours so i am not sure if they were still in my system and therefore affecting how my pill might have worked. When I had unprotected sex it was also the end of my period.I have continued to take my pill for two days after I had unprotected sex and have not had anymore antibiotics. How likely will it be that I could be pregnant?

I have to say in my own experience, thats how my boyfriend and I had an unplanned pregnancy. I had been taking the pill for some time. and when I started taking all these other medications too...it really did make the pill less affective. And now we are parents. Not trying to scare you or anything but you should find out soon. The sooner the better.

Hi,

While taking the Pill and antibiotics at the same time, the Antibiotics completely cancels out the pill.

So you would have been completely unprotected at the time you had sex. I would reccommend that you stop taking the pill, stop having sex and see a doctor asap. The only resaon I say stop taking the pill is because if you are pregnant the pill may harm the unborn baby. Regardless of what you decide to do if you are pregnent its best to stop taking the pill until you find out whether you are definitely pregnant.

Good luck in everything you do.

xx

Richard_EMids agony auntHi - Best advice is to go to your GP/Doctor as MissMel suggested. If you are worrying in between time go to website www.netdoctor.co.uk or www.patient.co.uk or type in NHS Direct on google. Take care

missmel34 agony auntSweetie, go and speak to your local doctor. If this was a couple of days ago you can organise the morning after pill....you have a 3 day limit with that one.

It may not be a problem, but its always a good idea to see you doctor whenever you feel insecure about this sort of thing.

Thats what they are there for.

A female reader, loops United Kingdom +, writes (13 December 2007):

I'm not sure how likely due to your cycle etc etc but as soon as you are on antibiotics you are told it counteracts the pull so to use protection whilst on them and 7 days after, so there is a possibility and even when your on your period its still a possibility. Take a pregnancy test or see your doctor if you are worried, just to be sure.
