How do we deal with such ignorance toward our relationship?

Question - (10 March 2010) 2 Answers - (Newest, 10 March 2010)
A female Japan age 30-35, anonymous writes:

So here's the situation:

I am in the military, assigned to Tokyo (where I'm currently living) and I have a job where I am one of only 2 females. Most men here take up Japanese women to be their girlfriends, or brides and most look down upon those who chose to have a non-Asian partner. Now, my current boyfriend (who is of Middle Eastern decent and works in the same place I do) have been having a tough time dealing with stupid racist/sexist comments from others. (I.e.: to me "why are dating a terrorist?" to him "why aren't you dating a Japanese bitch/they're not free-thinking like American bitches"...these are actual comments that have been made to the both of us) We have tried keeping our relationship secretive, but to no avail. How to we deal with such ignorance? It's really starting to bother the both of us and only gets worse...any advice? Thanks

mizz.butterflies agony auntWho is making the ignorant comments? The american coworkers?

Are you american? Cause I can't understand why an american man calls an american woman a bitch and prefers japanese women.

You need to be more clear about this.

xD ahh some people crack me up. Screw them I say. I mean, you actually let those kind of people bother you? What they say sounds like they're very shallow and their comments have no basis. So what if he's from the middle east? So what if you're not asian? The real point is you two are happy together. Next time someone says something racist like that, just laugh or ignore them. You can either let these things get to you or laugh about them because these close minded people don't understand what you have and how happy you are with it.
