i was on a field trip with my class and when we were about to go, i had to go to the washroom, so i then saw blood on my underwear, well actully, i thot it was poo at first cause it was dark reddish brown color, and i didn't want to beleive i started already, so i kept it to myself for like 1 day, but then the bleeding got worse so i had no choice but to tell my mom. don't worry, she'll understand, she's been thru it b4 too, so no need to worry. ^^
A

dont worry look here is one way you can tell her if you have a cell and if you dont just borrow one or you can write it down on paper, well anyway if you are very scared to tell her, tell her that she is going to recive an inportant text .....then text it to her . hope that helps.

A

reader, anonymous, writes (8 October 2008): just tell her. there's not really anyway you can get around it. and while most people are older when they start thier period, it's different for everyone. personally, i was almost 14, but i know someone who was 9. so it's not like you need 2 freak out about it or anything. also the bleeding stops at different time for everybody. usually about a week though. i'vehad it for as short as 4 days though. but my fried has had it for like.. 10. so tell ur mom and she'll tell you all this stuff and buy you pads and everything. just tell her. it's waaaay easier than freaking out over nothing.

A
reader, anonymous, writes (8 October 2008): I'm 10 and I started yesterday at a fastfood restraunt. I havent been bleeding through my pants(luckily) and just told my mom. When you do(and you should soon) see if you can get her alone. When she doing the laundry and no ones around, or shes in bed relaxing. just tell her. have her guess (thats what my mom did 'cause there was practically a hurricane in my stomach!!!)

honey, its all in the genetic pool. you usually start your period around the same age your mom or sister (if you have any) started their flow. don't be ashamed or scared. rejoyce in the fact that you are female. its all natural, and just a sign of things to come. nothing at all to be afraid of. if your mother is unable to talk with you about "good old aunt flow", as me and my daughter call it, go to your nurse, an aunt, grandmother, or someone who can answer your questions. but remember, no shame in mensturation. its just a right of passage for girls. good luck. and take it easy on yourself if your mom cannot talk about it. do some research on your own, library, friends, family. I would suggest the internet, but watch what you look at. somethings are pretty shocking for a girl your age. take care

She has her period to and has been in the same position. If you don't tell your mom it will turn bad. She knows what pads to get and can answer your questions. But the way I told my mom blew up in my face. So for the middle school in my town has this thing called the "drop off" and you can go there every Friday so I went and had to go to the bathroom and I found blood in my underwear so I freaked. Then I just put some paper towels in my underwear and went to go tell my friends. They told me that I should tell my mom. So I decided to send a text to my mom. So I did, but then i remebered that i had my moms phone since mine was dead so then i checked to see who I sent it to. And I accidently sent it ti my step-dad. So then my mom called back and I'm like i don't want to answer so then I finally did. And after the drop off my mom took me to get some pads.

I think girls at ten shouldn't have to worry yet about pads and cramping and the self conscious stuff that goes with getting your period. Moms don't want their daughters to "change" yet. But ... there is no picking the magic date of your period. It comes whether you agree with it or not no matter at what age. Your mom has gone through this, and will understand. She would want to know and help you along on this looooong road. Let her help you. I wasn't sure how long the first period lasts. I can't remember way back when I got it. But, my daughter has had it now for 3 full days and she's wearing maxi pads for heavy flow. I'm very happy she told me. I have shown her some tricks that I know my mom never told me. Please, tell your mom, if you haven't already. Do it when it's just you and her. When she comes in at bedtime to say good night would be a great time. (And, if you're descreet about it, the rest of your family doesn't have to know.)
Good Luck!

I noticed really dark brown stuff in my pants and I wasn't sure if I had so I asked a friend who had recently started who told me it was dried blood and yesterday I got blood (which she was shocked at, as she took ages to get proper blood.) It isn't hurting me at all. I told my mom straight out and she makes sure I wear pant liners for bed and everything *(even though i wore them before anyway because of discharge). Ten IS young, but honestly honey you need to tell your mom because she can give you alot of support! She's a female like you. She went through the same thing, and she loves you lots and lots. Just get her on her own and say mom, I started my period, but please dont tell dad because its embarassing. She wont shout, she will understand!:)

dont worry about it, 10 isn't that young, my little sis is 9 and has started hers about 2 weeks ago!Anyway you dont need to be embarrased when speaking to your mum, she was once your age and was in the same situation. Just go up to her (prefably when shes alone, this will make it easier)and explain to her that you've had some cramps and there was blood.oh yeah and your bleeding only lasts up to a week!

Hey, no big deal. I'm eleven. I think I started a few days ago, but I haven't told my mom. I think I'm going to wait 'til next time, (Just to make sure it was my period)then tell her. You on the other hand KNOW that you started, right? Well, here's what I think you should do. First, tell your best friend. (I did that) Then, when you're ready, muster the courage and tell your mom. She won't get mad or anything. She has gone through it too. It's just a part of female life. It's a tough time. Talk to your friends.
Anyways, congratulations! Getting your period is good! It's a sign that your body is working properly. Girls' periods start at many ages. One girl started when she was three years old. So ten is no big deal. Don't be scared. But if you are, here's a few good tips on talking to your mom about it...
Pick a time when she's not busy. And make sure you're alone with her.
If you can, try to tell her either before this period ends, or during your next one.
Show her some proof. Show her a used pad, used peice of tissue, or the underwear you were wearing when it started.
If you can't face her, write a note, send an e-mail, ect. Just don't have anyone tell her for you. The news needs to come from YOU.
If you can, try to tell her while the two of you are shopping together. In a grocery store. There are several good things about this location. For one, she won't cry or anything because she wouldn't want to be seen. For another, you can buy some pads or panty-liners while you're out.
I hope everything goes smoothly. Just remember, getting your period is NORMAL. No matter what age you get it. Good luck with telling her. Chances are, she'll remember how hard it was HER first time, and want to help.
Best Wishes,
Maggie

1.If your mom gives you a ride to school ask her if she wil drop you off at a near drug store because you starteed you period and need pads.
2. If you and your mom are yelling say something like i have had a rough day leave me alone i already got my period the run to your room.
3. when you get your period just go to your mom and ask her how do you know once you have you period she will tell you the at the end say i guess i got mine.
4. or if your mom washes your laundry she will see the blood on your under where.

But if i could change wot i did i would probly hav just told her coz sooner she will ask u if u hav seen any blood or if u know anything bout periods.
I know it is very embarrasing ect but just live with it.
ur mum will be comforting bout it so it is ok 2 say that u got it
Say it 2 her wen u go 2 bed just casually say "i got my period mum can i hav sum pads of tampons"
she shood be nice bout it
good good like

ps
if u r scared u can say 2 ur mum that u think u cut ur bum on the toilet seet coz there was blood in ur unddies

She'll tell you to wear pads or tampons whatever is more comfortable to you. But alawys wear pads at night and change tampons about 3-4 hours it depend how heavy it is. The bleeding should stop about 4-5 days maybe even a week. But i doubt it. Okay i hope i helped you =D!

1) Leave her a note, she'll TOTALLY understand and you don't have to feel awkward about saying it!
2) Tell her in the car, you can avoid eye contact, but don't tell her when she drops you off, at the last minute, she'll be too surprised and will probably say something embarrassing that you don't want anyone to hear.
3) Be open and honest with her, she still has (or had) her's, so she knows how you feel and what you are going through!
Hope that helps! Good luck.
Or another way, when your getting into your shower, tell your mom to "come here" and just say "Houston, we have a problem." and then show her your underwear! I did that when I started my pre-period! she was understanding!!

It's perfectly normal to start your period at age 10, in fact, that's when mine started. What I did probably wasn't the best choice, but it worked and I am happy with it. Basically all I did was go through that time of the month normally, stealing a few of my mother's pads. It was when she noticed the few blood stains that were on my underwear when she asked.
Just do what you think is right, and what makes you feel comfortable. Good luck!

theres alot of things you can do.
I left my mom a note on the table whered she see it when i went off to school so i didnt have to talk to her about it right then. You could go to the school nurse and ask her if she can call your mom and tell her. But thats not going to aviod a talk. Just go to the store with her, when you want down "that" isle grab a pack of pads and just say I need these and change the subject if your that worried.
Let me be the first to say
CONGRATS your now a women
happy perioding ;D

i also got my first period at 10. good for you, you know it's a period. back then i thought i was dying. when my mom found out she laughed and told me that i wasn't dying.
as to how long it lasted--more than a week i think. it was pretty heavy and doubts of dying seemed to creep in again. haha...
anyway, tell your mom. don't be overly dramatic about it. just make it casual.
take care.

Ten is within the normal range of ages if a little on the early side. I started at 11 and it wasn't a huge deal. I wouldn't tell her when she's kind of distracted tho. I told my mom in the car and she slammed on the breaks. It's a big deal to moms because it means their babies are growing up.

Hey darling,
Its ok to have your period at 10, i got mine at that age too! I remember when i first got it i didnt even know what it was!!! I had nooo idea why this blood was coming out so i started crying and ran to my mum. But she was sooo supportive.
I am 100% sure that your mum would like to know if you got yours! So you should tell her. You have nothing to be embarrased about, your mum would of went through the EXACT same thing. And it doesnt matter what age you get it at really, sure 10 may be young but that doesnt suggest anything bad at all!
Your mum will be really supportive and understanding I bet, because she has been through it too.
Saying it at the dinner table probably isnt the best idea. Next time you see to her just say something like 'hey mum, can i speak to you in private please?' and she will say yes and you can go into a room alone and just say 'ive started having my period...'...and from there she will guide you through it :)
And periods can last from 4 to 7 days, it varies from person to person.

you just have to tell her. 10 is young but thats all the more reason for you to have your mum supporting you - its a big change and its kinda scary. i promise you your mum will be supportive, maybe a little surprised but not disappointed or upset.
i think i told my mum during an arguement! it went along the lines of "stop stressing me mum, i've had a rubbish day, i've fallen out with my friend, you're on my back, AND i started my period today!" then stormed off upstairs leaving her staring at me with her mouth open.
Dont do it that way! just wait til you are alone with her and ask her if she could buy you some sanitary towels because you have started your period that way you are telling her but not making it some big dramatic announcement. She will probably feel closer to you and like you have more of a bond because it is something you need her support and help with.
good luck

You forgot after "hey mom I started my period" to say "pass the potatoes."
This is normal for you to begin. Your a girl. If you were a boy it might be kind of hard to explain. Your mom will be a very understanding person because she is a female and once she just may have been young wondering how to tell her mom.
I don't know if you'd start heavy or light, but I probably would not wait to tell her. The average time is 7 days from start to finish. You didn't do anything wrong, you didn't eat anything or play too much sports to cause this to begin. It's just your time.
Take care.
