What can I do to avoid feeling down on Valentine's Day?I'd be very grateful for any advice, but I'd prefer concrete, practical suggestions.I should also mention that my only friend is going to be spending the day with his girlfriend, so any social activity is out of the question. Thanks! Orvus is verified as being by the original poster of the questionThanks a lot to those of you who offered practical advice. I don't have the energy to go out anywhere so I'll stick to games/movies/pizza/escapism and hope that keeps me distracted.@Anon: I'm not a woman! :D Sometimes I wish I was, though.

If you stay at home watching movies and getting drunk, you will feel even more depressed about yourself. It stinks that your friend is doing stuff with his gf, but you should find something entertaining to do that lets you interact with other people! Volunteer at a shelter for a day, maybe go job-hunting, try speed-dating, go hang out with your family--there are millions of people on earth and you'll be able to find a way to spend time with them, it doesn't need to be romantically inclined!

Sign up on Dear Cupid and spend the day giving advice to other broken hearts. You may think you have already enough love pains on your own and you don't need to hear more, but trust me, having to focus on other people's problems and having to come up with some decently helpful answer will deflect your attention from your own Valentine blues.

Agreed!!! Make it action movies, not romantic comedies that'll drag you down. Stuff with cars, fighting, shooting and explosions should stop you feeling miserable.
