hello all!!

this isn't a relationship question as such but im looking for advice regarding my boyfriend.

He's attending a wedding in a few weeks and wants me to help him choose a suit to wear. He has a suit but, although there isn't anything wrong with it, it makes him look geeky and adolescent. I want to show off my man and love men in smart clothes so does anybody have any tips for what I should advise?

Im not looking for recommendations regarding make but rather the style I should help him buy.

I want him to look a man! Elegant! Not like hes either due in court or a kid attending his first interview in his dads suit which is the impression I get from his current suit. He is medium height, slim, looks young for his age and not used to wearing smart attire.

ANY tips would be most welcome

Thanks all for your replies, especially Zippy78! Wow that's a lot of detail and much appreciated.

I can see now what was wrong before with his suit. He is a fair haired and blue eyed boy. His black suit with white shirt made his face "disappear"!!! Thanks for the heads up.

He is slim but has a double chin. He tried some of my dads shirts on today and I noticed he looked slimmer in the face when wearing some shirts and fatter in the face with others. Now I realize its the collar styles.

I feel like I could work in a clothes shop now! Thanks guys!

Fatherly Advice agony auntMaisy1,

Get professional help. I mean take him to a good mens clothing store. I have to say mens clothing stores are one of the greatest things about being a guy. It is so different from shopping for womens clothes. And, I understand mens stores in the UK are way better than the ones in the States. First off you will not be running around looking for things for him to try on. they will set you in a chair and bring things to him. All you will be expected to do is to give a quick opinion or two. Let them find a suit or two that you think makes him look like the man you know he is. Then pay attention as the match shirts, ties and shoes with them. You only need to settle on one outfit for now. It is best if you buy the suit there. You can shop down some for the other stuff if you need to.

As for tips, relax and enjoy the trip. The more relaxed you are the more he will be able to make a good choice. Realize that the salespeople know their job (to make him look great)and, they are good at it. Try to stay out of their way. Most importantly, never buy a guy a shirt wit a tight collar. I see women do this all the time. A collar should fit comfortably with two of his fingers in it along with his neck. The mens store salespeople can tell you the proper neck size. If money is impossibly tight you should at least get him measured at a good store.
