Also its not always nice to look at as a rash can appear sometimes. Have you thought about having a wax done profesionally (plus it would be alot neater). i personally have shaved for years and touch wood have never cut myself. if you really feel that you have to then start with the stray hairs at the sides then gradually and carefully shave a bit further in. you can shave it all off, i personally don't like that look though or you can leave yourself a nice neat line, thats my favourite. x

 you must be careful in shaving this 'special' area! it can cause irritation and spots if you dont do this right. dont worry about it i have done this before both ways, bad and good. it is easiest to do this in the bath. you must exfoliate before. then put soap on and make it really bubbly. then go in the direction of hair growth and make long smooth lines going straight down. it might feel wierd at first but it should be fine after a while! remember if you really dont want to, dont let this boy pressure you into doing anything you dont want to do!  In addition to what Beckah wrote, I can tell you that as a man, I perfer to have it shaven (cleaner looking and easier to perform on without hair getting in my mouth.
I also shave my area, and forearms too. I use Nair which is a cream. The fumes are not pleasant, but I like it better than shaving with razors. Safer and feels nicer.
It burns for a couple of days after the first time. I find it worth it.

It's easier to shave once the hair is shorter. Then just put shaving cream on and shave away. I find that it feels a lot smoother when I shave in the opposite direction of hair growth. You might get a couple of little nicks, but just put a little tissue and pressure on it and it'll be ok. Be really careful... I cut myself once, and that HURT! You'll have to feel really comfortable touching yourself to get the best shave. good luck! If you find that you like it, then that's great. If it's not for you, then let the guy know.
