A female South Africa age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi...I'm a 21year old and I'm still a virgin so I'm really clueless about sex. My boyfriend and I were making out so things got heated, we both ended with just our underwear on. I don't know if this is regarded dry sex or not but I was laying flat on top of the bed with my legs kinda widely open and he was on top of me,between them. I could feel his penis right on the opening of my vagina...there was very little humping. We just lay in that position for about ten minutes while kissing. I have a few questions...could I have lost my virginity and could I be pregnant?

k_c100 agony auntSperm cannot travel through fabric - simple as that. As I said before, sperm really has to be inside your vagina in order for it to travel to reach your egg and then fertilise it. If there was no underwear and the penis was very close to the entrance of your vagina then there may have been a small chance of pregnancy - however you had underwear on therefore you CANNOT be pregnant.

Relax and stop worrying, you are 100% not pregnant.

Placebogirl agony auntTo lose your virginity the penis has to enter the vagina.

And I wouldn't worry, it doesn't sound at all like you're pregant. You've had your period since and taken multiple negative pregancy tests. You'll be fine.

However i would consider talking to a relative, or clinic about sex if you're unsure of anything. If not there are many official websites that give advice.

A female reader, person12345 United States +, writes (12 December 2011):

person12345 agony auntFirst off there was no sperm present. Second there were four layers of clothing, which prevent sperm from moving (sperm cannot move when they are not in the correct fluids). Third you were starting your period that day, which means it's highly unlikely you would even be fertile. Fourth, you got your perioid, a month later, telling you that you are not pregnant. Fifth youve taken many pregnancy test, telling you you're not pregnant. There is absolutely zero possibility you could be pregnant.

Just touching genitals together cannot get you pregnant.

I know Planned Parenthood is not in your country but their website can be accessed from anywhere and is highly informative. You should read through it to learn more.

I had my period about 9days ago. I've eight home pregnancy tests so far...most were negative, one was invalid and I think two of them were not done properly. So what you're saying is sperm can't have gone through 3sets of underwear? I had my period about two hours after the incident, had my period again 9days ago. Is it possible for a home pregnancy test to appear negative 30days after the incident when in fact I am pregnant?

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (12 December 2011):

chigirl agony auntNo and no. You are still a virgin. The penis needs to have entered your vagina for you to have lost it. And no, you don't get pregnant like this, you had clothes on and he didn't enter you either.

Hmm. How about just go to a Pregnancy Clinic and erase all doubt and THEN LEARN about sexual education.

1 - your still a virgin

2 - the chance of pregnancy is slim-zero

I think at your age you really REALLY need some general sex education before moving further with your relationship with your boyfriend.

It is possible to get pregnant if your boyfriend inserted his penis into you, OR if he/you inserted fingers which have semen (or the clear fluid before ejaculation) on them.

Your virginity will only be lost IF you have had a penis inserted into your vagina.

Hope that helps

A female reader, k_c100 United Kingdom +, writes (12 December 2011):

k_c100 agony auntIf you had your underwear on then no, you have not lost your virginity nor could you be pregnant.

Generally the only way to get pregnant is to have a man ejaculate inside your vagina. If he ejaculated on your vagina (without underwear on) then there is always a possiblity of pregnancy. But if you have your underwear on and he didnt ejaculate, then no you wont be pregnant.

As for your virginity - you only lose your virginity when a man's penis goes inside your vagina. Feeling it on the outside of your vagina doesnt count - it has to be inside you.

I hope this helps and good luck!
