hmmmm...Well i bet you get annoyed with people saying its "normal" so im going to tell you not to worry about it some girls just end up having light periods one month and heavy ones the next. personally i have a similar problem to you except mine are exstremley heavy and long i can be on my period for 4 weeks and have 1 week im not.if it carries on talk to your parents and go docters, i got put on the pill and it evens out your periods Best of wishes Beccaxoxoxo

Yep, I think it's normal. I remember some of my teenage periods being horrendously heavy, with period pains coming in contractions, but they weren't always like that. And the first weren't as bad as that - I think it was about the second year of having them that they got so bad. But don't worry. They go in phases throughout your life. In your 20s they tend to settle down and get lighter. They can get a bit heavier after 35, but you're a long way from that!
I'd still suggest you go to your doc, just for a chat about it and to put yr mind at rest. And maybe she/he can give you some good painkillers for the period pains. Sorry, not much more I can say except we've all suffered it! And it means you can have children, which is a good thing - all worth it. I am looking at my little 6-week-old baby now, and all the period pain is more than worth it to have been able to get pregnant and have her! : )

It's also perfectly natural if you continue to get heavy, painful periods from now on. Some women bleed heavily for seven days, some women have a light two day period. Every woman is different.
I see your in the UK. You can always ask your school to refer you to the school nurse, and have a talk with her about it. Alternatively make an appointment to see your GP. You don't need an examination, you're perfectly fine, but you may want to talk this over with someone medical to put your mind at rest.

A
reader, anonymous, writes (15 May 2008): Yeah it's very normal for your period to change - like it can be heavier or lighter or it can last for a week or just a few days and then the gaps between it can have a huge range. I've been very irregular myself - one time i had my period, then 2 weeks later i had the next one! And once there was a gap of 14 weeks. So any changes r pretty normal. Unless it's verrryyy painful and you can't do anything else because of it. In that case you should go to the doctors. There's a condition called dysmenorrhoea which is often when you have an incredibly painful period and can end up throwing up and shaking and going very pale.. In that case you should definitely go to the doctors!!
Hope I've helped a little :)
xx Hope xx

It can change occasionally, especially when you are young and you're body is getting used to being a woman. Unless the bleeding is causing an inconvience to your life or carries on for more than 4 or 5 days, dont worry.
Otherwise pay a trip to the doctor.
Good luck
