For the first like 17 months I had virtually zero adverse symptoms, but this past month was a nightmare. I felt nauseous pretty much every single day, had ridiculous mood swings, and just felt generally depressed. Then my period came...and it was a nightmare. I had hot flushes so bad that I thought I had a fever, one night I had dizzy spells so bad that I almost fell over, my energy was drained, the mood swings were even worse, and my lower body ached for 3 days. Plus, I could barely sleep. When I tried to fall asleep, just as I was drifting off, I'd awake with a start with my heart POUNDING. It would happen like 4-5 times in a row for two nights. It was the period from hell and I have never had anything else like it. I know I wasn't sick because I checked my temperature everyday. I'm taking my "misery pills" as I call them this month but I'm honestly quite afraid of them. So far I'm alright but it's only 4 days in. Has anyone else ever experienced something like this? Is it really from the birth control or does this sound like something that's beyond hormonal problems? I know these questions are best left to a doctor, but I thought I'd get as many opinions as possible. Thanks.

The trouble with contraception is it can be fine for so long, then completely go t*** up all of a sudden. My sister was using the mirhina (sp) coil for 2 or 3 yrs perfectly fine, thats got hormones in, then suddenly started getting spotting. Now for a health anxiety sufferer that isn't good! They removed the coil eventually and she is now fine. Her Hubby has since had the snip.
But also what you could be getting now is bad pmt. It can get worse the older you get. But even with pmt you can have hormone blood tests done, and the results can come back ok. Pmt is complex and not always to do with hormones, usually to do with chemicals in the brain, but you would need to google that. Or check out the premenstrual syndrome web site.
Other thing it could be is anxiety/depression. I can get morning sickness for a few days or more when i am going through a particular stressful time. I am not literally sick, but i wake feeling rank! And until mid morning it doesn't go. Having no sex life lets me know i'm not pregnant though lol
But definately worth visiting the doctor.

Well if you have been taking it for 17 months and having no problems then it's unlikely that you would suddenly get a reaction this severe.
What else has changed in your life?
You could have got a bug, or something worse.
See a doctor!
Good Luck!! xx

It could be a number of things. It could be time to change the pill! The female hormones in the body (or lack of) can cause all types of problems. Depression (there are different forms) can have lots of sypmtoms, naseau can definantly be one along with bad mood swings! Depression comes from the imbalance of chemicals in the brain brought on by stress related or hormonal conditons(thyroid diseases),etc. Such conditions trigger an onset. Certain medications can worsen depression.
Your problem however may not be depression itself. It could indeed be something else. My Mom had a cycle every month for 9 months. In her sixth month was told she had a fybroid tumor(ME!!!) and 3 months later delivered. My sister got pregnant while using the birth control pill. I would say that definantly your body is trying to tell you something. Listen to it! Seeks medical advice and perhaps even a checkup by a gynocologist to make sure it isn't the pill. If not he will refer you to someone who can help you get this on track. If the problem isn't with the pill, your doctor will refer you to the proper place or person who can help you.
God bless,
