k_c100 agony auntYou can get pregnant at any time of the month, including during your period. Yes the chances are lower than when you are ovulating however there is still a chance hence you should never have unprotected sex unless you want to get pregnant.

Basically at the start of your cycle your egg is released and travels down from your ovaries to your womb. When the egg reaches your womb that is when you are most fertile - it is in the best place to attach to the lining if it is fertilised and it is in a good place for the sperm to reach. This happens when you are in the middle of your cycle. So at the end of your cycle the egg moves down from the womb with the womb lining and this forms your period. So technically at the end of your cycle the egg is "dead" and unlikely to be fertilised but your cycle is not always regular and your egg could have been released a day or 2 later, therefore it may stay in the womb for longer giving more chance to be fertilised. Sometimes even during the period the egg is still around and sperm can still reach it - therefore if you are having unprotected sex you can never be sure that you wont get pregnant, no matter what time of the month it is.

Get the morning after pill ASAP and start taking the pill and use condoms!
