When i approached him the other day to ask him when he could go out he mentioned a day but then never got back to me. He is quite shy and i have a child and dont know what to do next??Any advice?

I would knock on his door with a job you need doing and ask him if he still wants to go out, see what he says. I'm sure he'll be just as frustrated that he didn't arrange the date, time etc as you are and if he's shy then you'll have did him a favour in taking the initiative here so don't worry about it. Just go for it!!!

Whatever happened to borrowing a cup of sugar? Knock on his door with some superficial errand and then smile and say "oh by the way, about the movie, which day are we going, I forgot to write it down...".
If he's shy, it was probably a huge thing for him to ask you out the first time, and now he might be feeling a bit insecure, so it's good if you could approach him about it.
