My son. now 20 suffred with acne; after numerous consultations with the GP and the Dermatologist, various prescriptions for medication;

You know what we discovered:

Plenty of glasses of water

Good cleansing of the skin in the morning and at night

In between when it does seem to "flare" up or get worse; a few glasses of water wit lemon or apple vinegar.

Today, he follows the above and has very little problems with his skin.

Do remember, that this problem is only due to hormones; nothing to worry about; yeah, I know it can be embarrassing but it does go away.

Try the treatment as suggested or if that does not help;

CONSULT yur doctor.

Just a note to say that Zineryt is not a bad cream, but Duac is newer and much better, the scientific evidence shows it prevents spots better and unlike Zineryt the effects doesn't wear off over time.

Note with these creams you do need to use them for as much as 3 months before you get the full benefit and you must use them everyday. (another benefit of duac is that it is once a day only and you don't need to keep it in the fridge).

Also note that GP's are under pressure from the governement to only use cheap medicines, so you may need to demand the medicine you want, or, if they give you the wrong one, try it and if you are not happy with the results, go back and demand that they give you the better one.

I just noticed you are only 10-12, so if you don't feel you can demand these medicines from your Doctor on your own, get a parent or an older relative to do it for you.

Forget over the counter treatments, they don't work very well if at all and they cost a fortune. Go to you doctor and demand some decent cream. The best on the market is called Duac. In most people there are no serious side effects, although you need to be careful what you touch when the cream is wet as it can bleach some cheap fabrics. I would say that this clears up between 80-95% of acne. If you have really severe acne that is scarring badly, you should get your GP to refer you to a hospital consultant, who can give you even stronger treatments, there is one which can actually cure acne over a matter of months, although the side effects are unpleasant.

If you feel you absolutely can't see a GP, and really, the rest of your life will be so much better if you just go (GP's see several cases of acne a week at least - we all get it, its not embarrassing), you can get a cream which is about 60-70% as effective as Duac from the pharmacist, this is called Panoxyl. Although if your going to the pharmacist, you might as well go to the GP!

My skin got much better from taking some high doses of pantothenic acid pills and also using a retin-A cream. These things together have made more of a difference than benzoyl peroxide creams did.

But these kinds of creams and supplements aren't always harmless. You need to read up on them to be informed so you don't do something you regret. Some people react very well to ideas like this but other people can get even worse.

Use really basic products for sensitive skin - the more you strip the skin or use harsh cleansing ingredients the more aggravated things get on your skin. I always found that clay-based things were good for calming spots down and keeping the skin clear. Lots of water helps too and make sure you exercise as it helps hormone levels steady.

When using these products (cleanser, moisturiser, exfoliator) make sure this is in the right order and do not apply to liberaly with the moisturiser. STEPS. Throughly wash your face with Tea Tree Soap (avalible from The Body Shop). Exfoliate your face 1-2 times a week- over use of exfoliating can spread the excess chemical that we get from spots around your face and can make them appear redder and with open, sore pores. Next, use a figertip amount of moisturiser on each cheek, this should be all that is nessarsery.

Products such as- Clean&Clear, Neutrogena, The Body Shop, Clearasil, T-Zone and Garnier Pure A can help. DO NOT use these products together, buy the steps and test for a month- if no improvement, discontinue use and use another.

As well as drinking lots of water, eating healthy and exercising often, there isn't much more to recommend. You can also purscribe 'Zineryt' from your local doctor. Look that name up on google.com for more information.

I hope I helped, acne is horrible I know!

Good luck!

Simple is the best product you can use because there's o perfume in it hence it won't irratate your skin. Exfoliate gently twice a day and add moisteriser at night time.

If it doesn't improve you should see your GP, he'll perscrive you some cream that will help clear it up or will give you tablets.

Good luck xx

Hey,

Since your age group is 10-12, you are probably going through puberty and your hormones is probably one cause of the acne. Is your acne very bad? All over your face, or just a few spots here and there?

Is your skin very oily? If it is, then the moisturiser, cleanser and exfoliator that you're using should be oil free. Wash your face with warm water twice a day-once at night and once in the morning.

Do you have any other skin conditions? Like eczema etc?

There are a few medicated creams that are used to help treat acne. Acnederm is quite good, but make sure you apply moisturiser after you apply the Acnederm, since it does tend to get quite dry. Your cleanser should be oil-free, and if you have sensitive skin, try a cleanser and moisturiser like Ego facewash/lotion. It's gentler on the skin.

As for the Acnederm-make sure you don't have any allergies to the ingredients (azelaic acid).

Just apply a small amount of it directly onto the pimples and blackheads - use it once in morning and once at night. (try not to put it too close to the eyes)

Good luck!
