Ok, so I'm on the pill, and I'm not very good at remembering to take it (sometimes miss over 3 days at a time) and recently had sex (3rd week of my cycle) using the withdrawal method, which I know isn't exactly the most effective method. I'm just wondering what the chances are of getting pregnant from this? And is it true that women don't ovulate while on the pill?

I agree...you should probably switch to a method that does not require you remembering to take a pill daily. Have you heard of the NuvaRing? You insert it and leave it there for the amount of days you would normally be taking a pill everyday, it could help make the birth control consistently effective...because a lot of brands of birth control pills say in the fineprint if you miss more than 2 pills (I can't remember if it's 2in a row or 2 within the cycle) you are supposed to dispose of the package and start a new one)

And possibly you should look into condoms? More reliable than the withdrawal method cuz the guy doesn't have to ejaculate to get you pregnant, even a few drops of precum have enough sperm in it that you could get pregnant from it. Also the safety of STD protection...condoms help you with that, withdrawal does not.

But to answer the other part of your question, it's true that the pill stops ovulation when used consistently, but with those gaps it is more likely that your body can still ovulate.

A reader, anonymous, writes (7 July 2009):

You might get pregnant by missing those pills. First of all, why are you taking it without reading about it and why it prevents pregnancy? Pills prevent ovulation..but if you haven't taken it religiously, I guess there's a chance you will get pregnant.

The best thing for you to do is to see a doctor or anyone who specializes on this, don't rely on us for answers here. Go to the doctor to be very sure.
