Chances of her being pregnant?

A male United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

My fiance and I had sex last night, we normally pull out but she was on top and we couldn't coordinate fast enough when I came so the first couple shots ended up getting inside her. It wasn't much and she went to the bathroom and washed out. Could she get pregnant? She just ended her period on the 4th. I think the chances are pretty slim, but I thought I'd ask.

loner agony auntDude i learnt a lot today when it comes to periods and pregnancy.... Whether you pull out use protection whatever the case maybe one can still become pregnent... We are all playing with fire and i gathered i'm going to burn really bad.... I don't mind being pregnent at all yet it would kill my dad... Seen as though you are getting married it is not such a bad thing after all.... Just be careful what has happened has happened.... You cant change it, everything happens for a reason after all! Xxx

Not to worry you or preach to you but anytime you have unprotected sex there is always a possibility. In fact, pre cum is more potent than a full blown ejaculation. there is an option though if this happens again. plan b is now available @your local pharmacy without a prescription. Be careful with the pull-out method...i got pregnant and its not a great idea if you plan on not having children yet! I learned the hard way. Best of luck to you and your gf!

A female reader, deejuliet United States +, writes (9 April 2009):

deejuliet agony auntWe count fertility by the day we START our period, not end it. So, if she ended on the 4th, I am presuming she started on the 30th or April 1st. That would mean that yesterday when you had sex she was on day 8 or 9 of her cycle. If she is on a 28 day cycle she would ovulate at about day 14. So she has not ovulated yet. However, it is possible for semen to live in the uterus, just hanging out waiting for the egg to decend for as long as 5 days (usually only 3, but 5 is not out of the question). That means that the semen could still be alive and ready to do their job on day 14 when she ovulates. The chances are rather small, but the chance is there. If you want be sure you could use the morning after pill and please go back to using a condom for the next 2 months until you say 'I do'!

We've heard of lots of people who use the pull-out method and it works fine. Besides we haven't seen a reason to be that careful since we're getting married soon. We're planning to get her pregnant in the first year after marriage, and continuing to use withdrawal as our only method afterward.

A female reader, psychologystar United Kingdom +, writes (9 April 2009):

I'm amazed she's not pregnant already, if the only protection you use is the pull out technique. She can still get pregnant even if you don't cum in her.

She can do a pregnancy test in about 3 weeks.

In the future, use protection if you don't want to be a dad.

What about the morning after pill? Is it really necessary? We haven't ever used any type of hormonal contraception (just condoms until we got engaged) and plan on letting nature run its course when we get married.. We were just using withdrawal until then. Of course we'd prefer she doesn't get pregnant until after we get married but we're getting married in June so I guess if she does it's not a big deal. I doubt she'd get pregnant from what happened last night anyways.

big chance, withdrawing doesn't work either as there is pre-sperm before you actually ejaculate

passionatelynumb agony auntBy the way, trying to wash it out will only push the sperm further into the vagina. This happened to a friend and nine months later he had a son. The pull out method is not very reliable at preventing pregnancy.
