It sounds like his impression is that you are in a relationship that is stable. That you two may be compatible for your relationship to move further, and maybe past the stage of initially learning if you two fit well together.

Mature love and settling down means being in love with one woman, being committed, and working towards a future.
Immature love aka "sowing your wild oats" or "playing the field" is all about one's selfish experiences and momentary gratification.

My meaning of that would be he means you both know what you want, you're both mature enough for a long term maybe life long relationship and that he feels like it is getting to a point where you are settling into being with each other for good. Doesn't exactly have to mean engagement but it sounds like a big hint.
