Devil's Advocate agony auntAs stated by someone else, yes you can get pregnant by having sex, it doesn't matter if it's your 1st or 1000th time.

If you don't want to become pregnant then you do need to use reliable contraception. Discuss this with your parents or doctor.

Equally as important as your worry of pregnancy should be a worry of STDs (sexually transmitted disease). You do need to make sure that you and your prospective partner has been tested if there is any doubt as to whether or not you may have contracted an STD from a previous partner. So be safe and be sure.

Hey there,

The answer here is a resounding yes: you can indeed get pregnant on your first time. Biomechanically, when a woman commences her menstrual cycles in puberty, she is ready to have kids. It makes no difference whether you are 'intact' or not.

As you are still a virgin, it's great that you've asked this question! But when you do decide to try it out, a contraceptive is a must. Please bear in mind however, that no contraceptive is guaranteed effective. According to some facts I have here (probably shouldn't say the name or I'd be sued for plagarism!):

Condoms have a theoretical failure rate of 3%(3/100 times used, they will fail!)However, with user error included in the equation, the failure rate rises to 10%.

Likewise, the pill has a theoretical failure rate of 1-2%, and a user failure rate of 4-10%. However, the pill has been known to cause adverse effects in certain women.

(The book I am quoting from was published in the 1980's so the information may be outdated, but it should furnish you with a starting point)

So when you do start to have sex:

Make sure he uses a good make of condom (condoms from vending machines are a no-no, as they could have been there for god knows how long, and are generally of inferior quality. Get a repuatable brand in a Chemist (Trojan, durex etc)Also avoid using condoms he has kept in his wallet, the prolonged exposure to body heat can weaken the latex)

If possible and healthy, use the pill in tandem with condoms.

Try to have sex only on "safe-periods" in your menstrual cycle. A woman is only fertile for three days of the month, but sperm can survive in a woman's body for days, so take this into account when planning.

Plese bear in mind that I'm not a doctor, and this advice is all amature at best, so it might be better to consult with a trained person rather than assume that all the above is accurate. But yes, udoubtedly, you CAN get pregnant on your first time.

Hope this helps, and take care!

You sound like a sensible young person or you would'nt be asking for advice.YES!!! you can get pregnant even without intercourse. If you share your bodily fluids with another person & it happens to reach the females genital region, pregnancy can occur. If you want to start a sexual relationship get some form of contraception from your doctor. If you are worried that your parents will find out use condoms at the very least. I highly recommend both as condoms will help reduce the risk of contracting a STD for both partners.

Yes, I did. I got pregnant from this guy who wasn't even my boyfriend and now I am proudly raising my son on my own. Don't risk an unwanted pregancy or STD's or even AIDS by having unprotected sex. Use contraceptives and condoms together. But remember nothing is 100% effective except abstinance.
