Can women tell when men have erections, by looking?

A male United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I was reading the question about the guy who wondered if his girlfriend felt his erection when she brushed up against it while cuddling. It made me think of something even more base, which is:

Can women tell when men have erections by looking?

As a guy if I get an erection I feel like the whole world knows. If I happen to read something sexy at work, say, at it turns me on then I will stay seated until it subsides, but would a woman really notice that? The reason I say women as opposed to anyone, is that straight guys aren't generally looking at that area anyway - at least I don't - but I imagine that women pay more attention to that part of the anatomy.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (21 June 2011):

I wouldn't say that I'm generally looking at crotches. But, i can usually guess whether a man is somewhat more 'excited' in my presence based on his behaviour, e.g. he covers his crotch with his shirt and looks down at it; or he crosses his legs and puts his hands over his crotch. Becoming suddenly more aware of your crotch or determined to hide it will usually draw the attention in my opinion.

anon_e_mouse agony auntIf you get one while sitting at your desk at work I'd do the same and simply not get up until it's subsided.

However, there is very little for me to get that excited about in the office. Spreadsheets just don't do it for me.

I'm not sure why women would look in that area anyhow? Do they check on these things in the office? I imagine getting up and shoving your hand in your pocket would draw more attention to that area to be honest.

RedLips agony auntIf we're already in the mood or really close to you. We can 100% always feel it. As for seeing it, if we feel it and look down we a majority of the time see it... Unless you're wearing loose jeans, then it's almost impossible :)

I really hope this helps!

it depends on the size of the penis and the tightness of the pants he has on

revolution agony auntWomen can absolutely feel an erection while cuddling.

As for being able to see it? It is definitely possible and depends a lot on what you're wearing:

Basketball shorts: the whole world will know

Slim pants: if someone glances they'll know

Loose pants: maybe but can easily be disguised

The best way to hide an erection is simply putting your hand in your pocket. The bulge in your pocket will blend with the bulge in you crotch.

Cheers,

A female reader, anonymous, writes (30 May 2011):

As a general rule I don't walk around staring at the crotches of strange men, but I can definitely tell (through his pants) when my partner has one, because hell yeah I'm watching then ;)

So I'd say if a woman happens to be looking, then yes, she's likely to notice... but most of us probably don't pay as much attention as you might think, especially if we aren't sexually interested in you. Hope this helps!
