reader, anonymous, writes (10 November 2009): and i might remind us all of the OP's original question. 'Can you get pregnant if you have sex from the back.' and the answer is, yes, you can. This was actually something i was taught in high school. Anytime sperm is present there is a possibility of pregnacy. Good answers, Tisha..

The most important thing to take away from this thread, dear poster, is what Tish is trying to convey. It is POSSIBLE to get knocked up with ANY kind of heterosexual sex, even menopausal women have gotten the surprise of their lives. It's just not worth the chance however remote it might be. Listen to Tish, she always gives the straight dope.

Ah, I see where you got the number from. Here are the statistics on getting pregnant when using condoms, correctly and incorrectly:
"Each year, 2 out of 100 women whose partners use condoms will become pregnant if they always use condoms correctly.
Each year, 15 out of 100 women whose partners use condoms will become pregnant if they don't always use condoms correctly." ( http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/birth-control/condom-10187.htm )
So, it's somewhere between 85% and 98% effective over the course of a year. Well, obviously, our anon doesn't mind playing the odds, and she's right, they are mostly in your favor.
Poster, she's right, it's very very unlikely it could happen. But I'm not going to say it can't, and of course, for the people who do get pregnant this way, I'm sure knowing that it's unlikely to happen for most is a source of comfort for them, as they shop at the maternity store.

The chances would be somewhat the same as getting pregnant when using a condom wouldn't it? Which is 99,7% something? I would dig up the exact number if I bothered to... Point was still that sure.. everything can happen. But most likely it wont.

Where did the one in a million come from? Did you conduct a study?

A
female
reader, anonymous, writes (9 November 2009): Well in my case I would say "no you dont get pregnant of you wear a condom" too. There is only ONE 100% sure way to not get pregnant and that is to not remove your panties at all haha.
However, when the likelihood of getting pregnant is close to the one in a million.. I still say "no you dont get pregnant". There will always be that little exception, but I think its more important to focus on the thousands and thousands who dont get pregnant than to focus on the one who does. There will always be an exception to everything, but that doesnt mean the rule isnt valid.
In other words the correct answer here would be "yes, but the chances are one in a million"

Found some more information:
"MYTH: A girl can’t get pregnant if you have anal sex unprotected because it's the “wrong hole”
"FACT: While it’s true that pregnancy cannot occur from the act of anal sex by itself, an that the risk of pregnancy from anal sex is less than the risk from vaginal intercourse, the anus and the vaginal openings are very close together.
"It’s easy enough for ejaculate (even when ejaculation occurs inside during anal sex) to run down and into contact with the vulva which then presenst a pregnancy risk. Additionally, anal sex has a high chance for the spread of STIs. Condoms and lubricant should be used for all anal sex play.

"It is also possible — but less likely — for women to become pregnant through any kind of sex play in which semen, or ejaculate, comes in contact with the vulva. The sperm can travel through the moisture on the vulva into the vagina."
From
http://www.plannedparenthood.org/health-topics/pregnancy/how-pregnancy-happens-4252.htm
"It is possible for a woman to get pregnant without having sexual intercourse (penetration), if there is a chance of any sperm getting into the vagina. For example, a woman can get pregnant if there is sperm on her fingers and she puts them into her vagina.
"However, the chances of you becoming pregnant in this way are very small because sperm can only live for a very short period of time when outside of the human body (a few minutes if left to dry out, or a few hours if wet).
"It would also be possible for pregnancy to happen if the man ejaculates close to the entrance of the vagina, or if his erect penis comes into contact with his partner's body near the vagina.
"Again, the chances of you getting pregnant in this way are much smaller than if you were to have penetrative sex. However, it's important to be aware that, in some cases, getting pregnant in this way is a possibility."

As I said, personal belief is no substitute for the facts. I personally don't know anyone who has gotten pregnant this way, well, at least I haven't closely questioned every woman I know that has ever been pregnant. I do know one couple who have two girls despite using birth control. So the sperm got in there somehow; maybe they thought if it landed on her outside, it wouldn't get inside? They're parents twice over, when they didn't want children at all.
The male releases 40-150 million sperm in each ejaculate. You only need a couple hundred of them to figure out which way to go.
It's a not a likely way to get pregnant, but statistically the chances are not zero. Someone wins the lottery eventually. I'm not going to be the one to say 'it's perfectly fine to get ejaculate on the vulva; there's no chance of pregnancy,' because there is a chance, teensy tiny though it is. I'm not comfortable saying 'go ahead, take the chance, it's not likely to happen' because slim though the chances are, it could happen.

If sperm get near the vagina, there's a chance of pregnancy. Sorry, but they do kinda know where to swim. If you're going to make statements about birth control, be sure you're correct, or what you write here could wind up with someone pregnant because they believed a myth. Have your documentation of your facts ready!

So NO you dont get pregnant from anal sex. There are no eggs up your butt to fertilize. But like they said: wear a condom. Or else you'll poop sperm for a week.

A

Because i am wondering if you mean anal sex or if you mean doggy style...oh we'll i guess you meant anal...you can get pregnant without vaginal penetration..and sperm does tend to get everywhere sometimes, so i would advise you to take precautions.

Well, technically no. But, semen can leak from the backside and getcha pregnant by dripping into the vagina. And, of course, you aren't safe from STI's... so it's best to make sure that you're on the Pill and using a condom. After all, what's better than one form of protection? Two!

It is possible but highly unlikely to get pregnant from anal intercourse as semen can run out of the anus and can come in contact with vagina. Use a condom suitable for anal intercourse
