Try and get an idea of what your daughter would like, but most teenagers at that age should be happy with food, music, surrounded by their friends and something fun to do. For some more ideas why not try http://www.birthdayparty4u.co.uk/, sit with your daughter and go through the themes/ideas.

This might not help you very much. But i'm 16 and i have to say, i would either want family OR friends, i wouldn't want them mixed into a party for both, unless my family was letting me pick a FEW friends to go and have a barbeque on the beach, or a waterpark, theme park or something. You could offer to take her on a shopping trip with her friends to a well known big mall or something, and go into nando's or something with everyone.I wouldn't want too much of a fuss made, and i don't like suprises, so if you are going to do it, although everyone is different, don't do anything with too many guests or anything that could embarrass her, like singing happy birthday to her.

I'm pretty sure for my 16th we went to the park and had a big BBQ. It was awesome and memorable. And then bring in those blended smoothie drinks and the music that The Realist suggested!!

Why not do something outside possibly water related since I am assuming that it is hot there right now. Also you could do a variety of blended smoothie drinks (non alcoholic)and let everyone hang out with some music in the background. At 16 you don't need a giant structured party, the kids will make the party out to what they want it to be as it goes on.

Take her on a trip or something, anywhere that she wants to go.
