If you are forth or fifth cousin that's far enough away that the two families would never even really meet. Genetically you are not related in any significance and legally it's fine as well. I have a cousin or something like that two but we would never actually consider ourselves to be family.
With all the marriages that have gone on since your families were closely related you two are basically as distant as meeting a stranger on the street.
