I am 15 an i have been using the term bisexual but recently realized that that term may be wrong. I date girls and guys and like both romantically but i dont want sex with either one. I have had sex with a guy but i didnt really care either way for it. I really dont want a physical relationship but i still want the rest of the relationship. So what am I technically???

A female reader, anonymous, writes (17 February 2010):

I think you can still say you are bi, but you're not ready for a sexual relationship yet. If you continue to have no sexual interest when you're further into your 20-ties, you could say you are asexual in a way I guess. If people ask you can choose what you want to tell them, it's not really any of peoples business what you do in private. As long as the person you choose to be with knows!

x-kitycatlok-x agony auntIt probably means that you ARE bisexual but just not ready for that part of a relationship yet. You like both males and females romantically, meaning that you are bisexual, but just because you don't want sex yet doesn't mean that you're something different. You're still really young and so won't develop sexual feelings for a year or so yet. Nothing to worry about, so don't panic. You are still "labelling" yourself right, but try and avoid using that term. You are your own person. You may be bisexual but that's not a label, just part of who you are.

A female reader, Miamine United Kingdom +, writes (17 February 2010):

Miamine agony auntYou are young and not sexually active.. celibate is probably the right term for you right now. Not all 15year olds feel they need to have sex. At your age, liking people (boy or girl) dating and kissing and leaving out sex is good enough. Most teenagers in the UK have sex at 17, even though the legal age of consent is 16. Don't believe the hype, relationships are good at your age, don't rush things when neither your mind or your body feel like it. You are normal.

k_c100 agony auntAsexual? Going to be alone forever?

Sorry that may be a little harsh but there is some truth there. Read this carefully - you CANNOT have a relationship without a physical element. If this occurs then all you have is a friendship, not a relationship.

To have a relationship in the sense you are talking about, you have to be attracted to that person, both physically, mentally and emotionally. It is not just about sex - you have to look at that person and be attracted to them both for the way they look and for who they are as a person otherwise you are just their friend!

What is the "rest of the relationship" you are talking about? Are you only classing sex as physical, rather than including ALL physical elements like attraction, hugging, kissing etc?

I think what you are is a confused teenager who is not old enough to really know how you feel about dating and sex just yet. You are only 15 so I imagine your first time was a bit awkward and the guy didnt really know what he was doing - I can assure you that your first time is not normally representative of the rest of your sexual experiences for time to come!

Just allow yourself to be a teenager and try not to label yourself - after all there is only 1 of you so you dont fit into any category - you are you! I hate this idea of labelling, why cant we just be a unique individual that does not belong to any group? We are all humans and that should be the only label we have.

I'm sure in time you will come to enjoy sex, if not then I guess just try and be friends with both guys and girls, and maybe one day you will start to have sexual or physical feelings for someone. If not then just be happy with friendships, after all relationships are just friendships with an added bonus of a physical element! So if you dont want the physical side, then just have lots of friends and you will be happy.
