why would a girl who has one night stands when she's single want to take it slow in a relationship? Seems to me that this girl is hotter for the guys she doesn't want to date... I don't get it.

A female reader, Weeble United Kingdom +, writes (16 December 2010):

Because the kind of person she has a one night stand with is not the kind of person she wants long term. If she's taking her time, she's considering you as a potential longer term partner (or at least longer than a mere fling!).

Women are just as likely to have short term sex partners as men, and sometimes it's a way of not getting hurt as the emotional attachments don't form in the same way. Encourage her to open up and talk; it may well be she's been hurt badly in an emotional sense in the past and is very wary of forming bonds or connects with people beyond the shallow sexual sense. Give her time and it'll be all the more special when it does happen.

She actually cares about you, that's why. I hope you care enough about her to respect that.

priyanka92 agony auntbecause its her first love probably and she wants to take it slow with you because she wants it everything to be perfect unlike her one night stands which were very spontaneous and without any strings attached..

Sounds like she thinks more of you and emotionally needs time to get used to this.

A male reader, The Realist Canada +, writes (16 December 2010):

The Realist agony auntThe girl would want to take it slow to make sure that there is love formed before sex and not love of the sex. If sex comes first, like on a one night stand it is for pleasure and not love which does not form a good relationship. Introducing sex into a new relationship can really shift what the relationship is all about.

If a guy only wants to sleep with her right away then there is really no drive to form a relationship which is exactly what she would be trying to avoid. People like a good meaningless one night stand to releive themselves but not to find someone to spend the rest of their lives with.

A reader, anonymous, writes (16 December 2010):

No one can know for sure, why don't you ask her? It may be that she wants a lasting relationship with you and she will wait until that is assured before adding sex to the mix. A lot of people won't take a relationship seriously if sex comes before an emotional bond is made.
