Would it be easier to break things off before he has to go?

Ive been seeing this guy for nearly 4 weeks now. It was meant to be nothing too serious, but as time goes on my feelings for this guy are getting stronger. I think he likes me too, just by the way he is with me. But he's going away to work for the winter in a couple of months. I knew this beforehand, but now it's getting harder to listen to him talking about it.

I don't know what to do for the best. I don't want to break it off with him but I don't want to be left heartbroken when the time comes for him to go. Not sure what to do. Any advice would be great.

Long distance relationships are almost impossible to make work. If you stay with him, you will be obligated to not date anybody else. As will he. You both will be wondering if the other one is dating someone else or not. It will be a strain on your relationship from the start. Why not stay friends for now. Then if he comes back maybe you can take a go at it.
