writes: me and my boyfriend have been together for 8 months and in the first few months of being together i got pregnant we love each other and are really happy most of the time, but he does like a drink alot and he says he is drinking now before the babys here so he basicaly saying hes havin his freedom now.However none of my family beleive him so its starting to make me doubt him that hes not going to change when the babys here... reader, anonymous, writes (23 June 2010): Having a baby is a life changing experience, so he might change. However, it is selfish of him because you can't drink whilst pregnant - what about your last bit of freedom?! I suggest waiting until the baby arrives because you'll probably want someone with you at the birth and to help in the first few weeks, and then give him an ultimatum - either he gets help for his alcohol problem or gets lost.

A man will change for himself. He will never change for anyone else. Will your boyfriend change? Only if HE wants to. He will not do it for your sake. He will not do it for your baby's sake. I think you need to carefully discuss this with him. Never sit there thinking that a man will change, or even worse that a baby will change things for the better. If he changes, it will be for himself. Not anyone else.

No, a baby will probably only make it worse. Babies add stress, a lot of people drink to deal with stress. If he drinks a lot and makes excuses for it, he might be an alcoholic. The only thing a baby ever solved or got rid of is the pregnancy.
