I think he might be having erection problems and that can be the reason why he is acting like that. I think you should let him know that you will support him no matter what problem he is having. Try to go with him for counselling, but I really do not how you could trick him.

You are asking the wrong questions. You have to ask him what the problem is…. Has he been to the doctor and had a medical work up? My dad at about 60 developed LOW-T (testosterone) and a patch fixed him right up….

Maybe he has developed erectile dysfunction and he is too embarrassed to tell you. It's quite common in men of his age and not something they are going to naturally feel comfortable talking about but there is lots of medical help available.
