Why is he like this?

There's this guy in class who took my number from a friend and started texting me. We texted for a few weeks and in class he keeps on looking at me and we smile to each other but we've never talked in person before. Recently he stopped talking to me. I don't know why. I tried texting him first sometimes but he doesn't reply. There was also a time when he told me he was in love with his best lady friend but that doesn't really have anything to do with this. I'm not rushing to be in a relationship with him or anything, I'm just wondering why is he acting the way he is now?
