Hello, I was wondering about this for quite a while. Why do guys typically avoid girls who are somewhat overweight? I am perfectly average for my height and age, but I was asking on behalf of my friend. She is fifteen pounds overweight, but she isn't obese. Her height is 5'8" and she weighs 165 pounds. Now, her stomach doesnt hang over her waist, but she has a stocky build. I'm not sure if it's genetics or what. Why is it that guys prefer skinny girls? Is it because of embarassment? If you could help me that would be excellent!

The Realist agony auntI would call that having curves, something that is very attractive. Its not that guys prefer skinny girls it just that is what is focused on so much. I think the shallow guys only go for skinny twig girls but the normal guys go for personality over body type. The only time I would say weight is a problem is when its really over weight to cause health prblems.

NHL0001 agony auntLike with what CaringGuy said, guys keep seeing people like Megan Fox and they think that every girl needs to have that slim look. It's kind of like they think that having a girl that looks like an actress is gonna boost their social status. Tell your friend that weight shouldnt matter, and that one day some guy will love her for who she is, and not what he wants her to look like.

I don't agree. Most guys I know don't like the stick insect fugures of the model girls in the magazines and celebs like Victoria Beckham. The vast majority of us like 'normal' sized girls - say, around 8 to 10, with moderately tits and hips. Believe it or not, in reality most guys don't really like huge boobs - it's all right in porn films, but in the flesh, URGGGH!

But we are put off by the chubby-to-obese gang. The reason is not just the appearance, it's that if she can't look after herself properly, she obviously has no self-esteem or self-control and is therefore not a good bet for a long-term parner and maybe mum. Cruel, but enough truth to be a good rule of thumb when trying to unravel that mystery of all mysteries - what goes on in a woman's mind and is she going to make a good partner or just leading me on?

It's the media. Young men see image after image of skinny women such as actresses and models and become deluded into thinking that all women should be like that. As a lot of guys grow older though, many suddenly wake up and realize that there is a lot more to a woman than just her size. Not all do. There are always some men who just remain deluded. Also, it's a personal thing. Some guys prefer skinny girls, others prefer curvy for whatever reason. I'm sure you friend is perfectly fine. It's just that the guys around her haven't woken up yet.
