writes: My first name is not difficult to pronounce. He used to call me by that but one day switched to Miss____He only does this to me and it is NOT to reprimand me, it is in a jokey/friendly/regular way. Even just saying hi in the hallways. I find it quite endearing, but also it puzzles me. Is he just being nice, or treating it as sort of a nickname for me? Motivations behind this? I am just interested in your insights. thanks.

reader, anonymous, writes (20 March 2010): If you're a little more quite/shy/reserved, he may be trying to give you attention and acknowledge you. He may be doing it to show that he knows that you're there and is trying to get you to be more outgoing. I wouldn't worry about it too much- sounds like he cares about you as a student and wants you to succeed and do well in school.

I would say that is is just a nick name. I have had teachers in the past past that used nick names for over half the class based on their personalities. It was actually alot of fun.
Don't worry about it unless you notice him use the name with some sort of underlying sexual tone but I doubt that he would go that route.
