 I think he is just teasing you affectionately,in his mind. Men generally do not understand that weight is a sensitive issue for many women.

 It depends how he is saying it. Some people say things as a joke, and some people say things in a nasty way.
You can always give him a warning that you'll dump him if he doesn't cut it out. Or threaten to disclose some embarrassing information about him if he doesn't stop. Does he wear a wig? Or does he have some habits that most people would laugh about?
