Why does he keep texting and calling and emailing me?

dear cupid, i need your help. robert and i have been best friends for about three years i mean this boy would kill over me and he doesn't do that for everyone.about a year ago i told him i wanted to be more. hes had it bad for me since he met me but when i fell for him back he had already fallen for another girl. but he cares for me too. so in the last year i waited on him for about four months and it tore me up so i told him i couldn't take it anymore i had to walk away from the situation. he cried and begged me to be with him and told me he couldn't lose me. we were together two months and he left me for no reason. we didn't talk for a couple months and now we have been talking for about two months but over the phone text and email. its like he can't stand to look at me. he has been telling me things like leaving you was a mistake and how amazing i am. sometimes hell talk to me for a day or two and then nothing for a week but it rarely goes more than a week. for the last week or so we have talked everyday and alot. what does this mean? why does he keep texting and calling and emailing me? it kills me he is not mine. and i know it kills him im not his. i know him too well. he misses me. bad. what does all this mean? and why does he suddenly stop talking to me sometimes? please help.
